Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2406: Chapter 2299: The Bet

”Wrestle!” Pang Di blurted out.

He was tall and burly, so he had to choose a competition that would be to his advantage.

”No way!!” He Yue stepped in front of Ning Chenguang, ”How many years older are you than my brother? You’re so big and you want to wrestle with him, aren’t you ashamed?”

”Exactly! What’s this about? Wrestling with me is like an adult wrestling with you!” Ning Chenguang wasn’t going to fall for it.

Pang Di’s eyes shifted as he said, ”How about we have a bravery contest instead?”

”That’s fine.” Ning Chenguang nodded in agreement, ”How do you propose we do it?”

”Do you dare to watch a pig being slaughtered?” Pang Di suggested.

”Of course.” Ning Chenguang agreed without a second thought.

”Great.” Pang Di nodded, ”Then let’s go watch the pig slaughter! At the village entrance, Uncle He is marrying off his daughter, and when we came over just now, they were getting ready to slaughter the pig. How about we go watch?”

Watching a pig slaughter is a nightmare for the village children; they want to see it but are also terrified.

Especially when the knife goes down, slitting the pig’s throat, with blood spraying everywhere. The pig lies on the table, screeching and struggling with all its might, which looks truly frightening.

Even adults feel uncomfortable watching it.

”Alright!” Ning Chenguang agreed.

”You can’t close your eyes while watching. If anyone gets scared and closes their eyes first, they lose!” Pang Di declared.

”Alright! That’s settled then!”

”Brother, don’t go!” He Yue was scared. Hearing the pig’s dying squeals would give her nightmares, ”You’ve never seen a pig slaughter, have you? It’s really scary, and you won’t be able to sleep at night!”

”Guangguang, don’t go. It’s really distressing; don’t watch...” He Mu had seen it twice and would always throw up afterward.

”I’m not afraid.” Ning Chenguang was indifferent, ”Let’s go!”

”Let’s go! Who’s afraid is a coward!” Pang Di shouted.

A group of kids set off grandly, heading for the village entrance.

They arrived just in time for the slaughter.

The village folks were all gathered around to watch the spectacle. Seeing the group of kids arriving, they all advised, ”Kids, don’t watch this; it’ll scare you to tears!”

The timid children backed away at the sight, but Pang Di and Ning Chenguang, being the competitors, had to stand at the front and couldn’t back down.

The man slaughtering the pig was Zhang Laosan from the same village. He was tall and strong but was doing this for the first time.

The village butcher had gone out and wouldn’t return for a few days, but the wedding at Uncle He’s needed to be conducted soon, so they had to ask Zhang Laosan for help.

Two or three people assisted him; they bound the pig tightly and held it down firmly, waiting for Zhang Laosan to slaughter it.

He sharpened the slaughtering knife repeatedly, ensuring it was razor-sharp, worried that if he didn’t kill the pig with one strike, it would escape.

Such a thing had happened before—after a failed attempt, the pig ran off two miles with a bleeding neck.

It took a Herculean effort to recapture it.

All preparations were complete, and Zhang Laosan was ready to get started.

All the villagers took a step back, and Pang Di felt a slight unease but couldn’t back down because of the bet.

Zhang Laosan held the knife, muttering about reincarnation or something similar under his breath.

After finishing his muttering, he aimed the knife at the pig’s neck and struck down.

The pig screeched with all its might, blood spurting far from its neck.
