Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1867: Chapter 1867 Eavesdropping on a Secret

After living cautiously for more than two months, Hong Mei had smoothly integrated into military life, and she remembered all the phone numbers of the various departments and heads in the unit clearly.

In these two months, in the eyes of others, Gan Tian seemed even more diligent than before. If anyone had a headache or didn’t want to work, they could all find Gan Tian, she could replace anyone on duty.

Comrades really liked this change in Gan Tian, no matter who had Gan Tian take their shift, they would always bring some snacks for Gan Tian, and Gan Tian would give all those snacks to Lin Miao.

Lin Miao was naturally very happy, and the relationship between the two became even more harmonious.

One day near the Spring Festival, the troops went on vacation.

Those with family leave all went home, leaving the warriors to guard the unit.

Hong Mei naturally didn’t have to go home; she stayed to hold the fort.

That night, she received a call, it was a call from two heads, the group staff officer and a not low-ranked researcher from the ordnance department.

With the sensitivity to intelligence, Hong Mei immediately made a decision, she listened in on the call.

”Hey! Gan Tian, eavesdropping again,” a fellow on duty teased her, ”What? Eavesdropping on the conversations between the commander and his wife again?”

Hong Mei smiled and made a very shy face.

Yes, everyone in the class knew about Gan Tian’s crush on Tian Niu.

She had looked at Gan Tian’s notebook, peeped at Gan Tian’s secrets, and read all the girlish thoughts of Gan Tian.

One morning by chance, she left the notebook spread open on the study desk in the dormitory on purpose for others to see.

Let everyone know about her little thoughts.

Later accidental eavesdropping wouldn’t cause too much suspicion, just thinking her girlish heart was running wild.

”Alright, alright, stop being embarrassed and listen carefully! You say, you’re quite pitiful, of all people to like, you just had to fall for the married Captain Tian! Alas!”

”No choice... it’s embarrassing, isn’t it?” Hong Mei whispered.

”Not really. I also really like our regiment leader. You haven’t met him, right? He’s so handsome and charming! My old heart, alas... what a pity he’s married. If he wasn’t, I’d be the first to jump on him, push him down...”

”You’re a girl, why call yourself ’old man’...”

”I like it. Hahaha!”

The phone seemed to reach a critical point, and Hong Mei put her finger to her lips to signal him to be quiet.

Immediately after, the crucial intelligence flowed into her ears.

”I heard your ordnance department is developing the individual combat weapon ’Zero.’ How’s that going? It’s been months, any progress on the weapon?”

”We’re still in the blueprint stage. Once the blueprints are out, then we can start production!”

”How many years?”

”Hard to say, but we’re designing as fast as we can. Right now, many countries want to develop new weapons, it’s like an international arms race, we can’t fall behind.”

”So does that mean, with all your hard work, we’ll be able to use it soon?”

”Just kidding! It still needs countless trials, we need to collect usage data! After collecting the data and making adjustments, then we can mass-produce.”

”Looking forward to the new weapon! To show its might on future battlefields! Hey, when the weapon comes out, can you let us test it first? I guarantee to provide you perfect data.”
