Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1502: Chapter 1502: Don’t You Feel Shame and Humiliation?

The sentinel had come with a nervous heart, having failed to deliver the messages he was supposed to convey. He had expected to be scolded.

But, unexpectedly, not only was he not scolded, but he was also praised.

This made the sentinel, Li Ran, a little excited. As he walked out, his nerves and excitement nearly caused him to trip down the stairs.

The atmosphere in the Ning Family’s home suddenly shifted.

The gloom and sorrow that had just been present were swept away, and joy took their place.

”An Hao, you should hurry to the military base and tell your dad this news. Let him have some joy as well. Ever since he heard about Qin Jian on the first day of the new year, he has been so upset that he hasn’t been able to eat or sleep well,” Zhang Yun worriedly mentioned this matter.

”Okay. I’ll change my clothes and go.” An Hao still had Gu Shuangshuang on her mind, ”Mom, please take care of the two kids at home, and also give Shuangshuang a call to let her know this news as well, to ease her mind and relieve her anxiety.”

”Go to the military base without worries. I will properly handle the matters you mentioned just now,” Zhang Yun’s mood brightened substantially, ”Hurry along. Come back early for lunch, and we should celebrate this good news properly today.”

”Alright. I’m leaving then. Please look after the kids, Mom.”

”Sure. No problem. I understand.”

Inside the regiment hall, the meeting proceeded with great enthusiasm.

The warriors’ applause was loud and clear.

On the stage, several leaders sat in a row, waiting for the applause to subside. Then Zhang Jianguo slowly stood up, ”Today we have a commendation ceremony! There are many to be commended, and I have a list. When I call your name, please come up to the stage to receive your award.”

The moment Zhang Jianguo finished speaking, the warriors below sneakily communicated with glances and lip reading.

”The atmosphere of this commendation is very solemn.”

”Yes. It’s all because of the regiment commander’s situation. I heard he was sacrificed in the earthquake relief efforts. He was the leader’s only son.”

”That’s true. Although he was posthumously awarded a first-class merit, he lost his life. With such circumstances, do you think the atmosphere of the meeting can be good?”

”Not at all. With the leader keeping a stern face, who dares to crack a smile?”

This meeting broke away from past conventions, saving the most important and tearful honor for last.

”Now, let me first announce, in this earthquake relief effort, the infantry regiment as a whole has been awarded third-class merits for their outstanding, self-sacrificing performance.”

As the announcement was made, the warriors were boiling with enthusiasm, their applause thunderous.

After the awards, Zhang Jianguo announced the recipients of the second-class merits.

The first person he announced was Hen Zhiyuan.

As a recipient of the second-class merit and a leader in command during the efforts, Hen Zhiyuan approached the stage to receive his award and was expected to share his feelings at that moment.

”Hello everyone, I am the deputy commander of the infantry regiment, Hen Zhiyuan! During this earthquake relief operation, our regiment’s warriors all struggled desperately at the disaster site, chewing on snow when hungry, and dozing off in heaps of snow when tired. The conditions were incredibly harsh. But, we all endured. Therefore, we have the honor today! As their leader, I naturally could not stand idly by; I had to rush to the forefront, sharing joys and hardships with the warriors...”

Before Hen Zhiyuan could finish speaking, a voice chilling to the bone suddenly resonated, ”In the moment of crisis, to push the comrades who trusted you into the abyss for a chance at promotion—don’t you feel ashamed and guilty? Is this what you call sharing hardships?”
