Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1453: Chapter 1453: Not One Less

”Okay,” as long as it was a request from An Hao, Yan Ye would agree, ”What would you like me to bring to him? However, I’m pressed for time and have to leave at nine tonight. So, you’ll need to be quick.”

”Uh-huh. No problem,” An Hao said as she opened her bag and took out a photograph, ”Please take this to him.”

The photograph was a family portrait.

It was taken during the children’s full-month celebration, a photo with her, Qin Jian, and their two kids.

She loved this photograph and had the photo studio print two extra copies. She also carried one in her wallet.

Yan Ye took the photograph from An Hao, his gaze landing on it.

In the photo, the man stood tall and handsome like a sturdy tree; the woman was soft and beautiful, draping over the tree like silk vines, and their two little treasures were the crystallization of their love.

The man’s expression was subdued, but the laughter in his eyes was profound.

The woman, on the other hand, was the epitome of happiness and sweetness, her lively expression seeming to step right off the photograph.

”Very beautiful,” Yan Ye smiled faintly, ”Don’t worry, if I see Qin Jian, I will definitely give him the photo.”

”Um.”

”Is just the photograph enough? Don’t you want to write him a letter?” Yan Ye asked, ”You must be very worried about him, right? If you are, tell him about your worries.”

Let him know that back home there’s a woman constantly thinking of him. Perhaps that would help him persevere through the hardship?

”Good idea,” An Hao replied and promptly set to writing. She grabbed a pen and unfolded a sheet of paper, penning a letter fluidly. Once done, she folded it and handed it to Yan Ye, ”Please take care, and that goes for Director Ji too! I hope you all return safely, without a single person missing.”

”Um,” Yan Ye’s smile broadened slowly, his eyes softened, ”Thank you, An Hao!”

An Hao smiled embarrassedly: ”Mr. Yan, let’s not be so formal, shall we?”

...

Descending from the mountain, Qin Jian was so exhausted he felt completely drained.

This rescue mission had indeed been challenging, but fortunately, the pregnant woman was lucky—multiple aftershocks failed to take her life.

Initially, on the mountain, it seemed impossible to move the boulder that trapped her.

Unexpectedly, after several aftershocks, the earth’s crust shifted again, creating a crack under the boulder that had crushed the pregnant woman.

The boulder wobbled slightly and shifted to the right, wedging into the crack.

The pregnant woman was finally rescued.

Bringing her down the mountain also took a significant amount of effort.

This rescue operation meant days and nights without sleep.

Not only did they have to guard against aftershocks, but they also had to ensure the pregnant woman’s life was protected at all times—it wasn’t easy.

Back at base camp.

Tents had been pitched one after another. It was dawn already, snowflakes were still fluttering, and the rescue work was extremely challenging.

Worse yet, the night temperatures were too low, and the mere tents and blankets were no match for the bitter cold.

There were many injured, and the roads into the mountains were difficult to navigate. Only those with severe injuries were evacuated from the mountain; those with less serious ones were accommodated in the tents.

Such extreme weather was unbearably painful for these casualties.

If their wounds froze, the consequences would be unimaginable.

To avoid such situations, PLA cooks and warriors worked all night, boiling ginger sugar water and supplying it at intervals.

Seeing Qin Jian return, a warrior quickly brought him a large bowl of ginger sugar water.
