Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1068: Chapter 1068: It’s Easy to Invite the Gods, Hard to Send Them Away

”My sister isn’t so petty. Auntie, don’t take it to heart. If there’s nothing else, we’ll head back now!” An Ping knew what Li Junping was thinking. Before leaving, his sister had instructed him that, no matter what, they couldn’t let Qin Fen work at the vegetable garden.

It would only cause major trouble.

”No, no, no!” Li Junping quickly grabbed An Ping and said with a grin, ”Qin Fen, brother, isn’t young anymore, he doesn’t have great prospects, and he’s still counting on you for a meal.”

”My temple is small and can’t accommodate Qin Fen, brother, this big Buddha. After all, he’s also worked in the city before. Maybe he should go back there instead!”

Li Junping understood his implication—she clearly didn’t want to accept Qin Fen.

For her son, she was prepared to sacrifice her dignity.

So, she pinched herself, and, with a headache coming on, she burst into tears in front of An Shuchao and An Ping, ”Behalf brother-in-law, I know Qin Fen’s child wasn’t reliable before! But please, give him a chance, I assure you he won’t cause any trouble. After all, we are relatives; you can’t just watch us struggling and do nothing, right?”

After she finished, she broke into another bout of crying.

It was the New Year, and the road was full of people visiting relatives, so the villagers who heard Li Junping were quite sympathetic toward her.

They had just been persuading An Shuchao to give her a chance.

With so many people talking at once, An Ping could handle it, but An Shuchao couldn’t.

Finally, under pressure, he could only nod reluctantly, ”Sister-in-law, stop it. I accept! After the fifteenth, let him come to work.”

”Okay!” Li Junping turned tears into laughter, ”Thank you, brother-in-law! Thank you! I’ll go back and tell Qin Fen the good news.”

Li Junping left happily, but a cloud of gloom descended over An Ping, ”You shouldn’t have agreed! My sister specifically instructed me before she left! This was definitely something we shouldn’t have agreed to!”

”I didn’t want to agree! But with so many villagers watching, if I hadn’t agreed, I was afraid they would criticize us later for being unkind,” An Shuchao said helplessly.

”If we keep bending to everyone’s will like this, soon our garden will be flooded with people, and we might as well not run our business,” An Ping frowned and said, ”Do you know why my sister and brother-in-law didn’t say goodbye to the Qin family? They had already told Qin Ru Hai the day before. They deliberately avoided Li Junping today because they were afraid of meeting her.”

”Forget it, forget it? I’ve already agreed. If Qin Fen doesn’t perform well later, we’ll just fire him.” This was also a way to save face for the Qin family.

An Ping disagreed, ”There’s a saying: it’s easy to invite the gods; it’s hard to send them away. I hope nothing goes wrong!”

”Let’s take it one step at a time,” An Shuchao said, turned around, and walked ahead with his hands behind his back.

Qin Jian and An Hao returned to the military compound.

As they entered, Ning Yibin was on the phone while Zhang Yun sat quietly listening.

He hadn’t spoken much when Ning Yibin hung up, and Zhang Yun stood up to greet them.

”You’re finally back! We missed you so much these days, I almost couldn’t stop myself from personally coming to fetch you.”

”When did you guys get back?” An Hao asked while taking off her coat.

”We got back after the second day of the new year. We thought you’d seldom come back, so you might like to stay a bit longer,” Zhang Yun said.

”Thank you, Mom.” An Hao smiled and stepped forward to hug Zhang Yun, ”Dad asked me to bring some vegetables back! I’ll go get them now!”
