Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 995: Chapter 995: Up to the Twelfth Floor, Rooftop!

Cheng Yue let out a deep sigh, ”I can only tell my parents and have them pick up my sister.”

”That’s the only way.”

”I’m going to look for a phone.” Cheng Yue said, looked at his watch, and told Li Zhi, ”It’s already past nine. It’s getting late, you and Chao Qian should head back first.”

Li Zhi refused to leave, ”No need. Glasses and I will stay here to keep vigil. We can take turns among the three of us!”

”Go back! I’m fine by myself. Once she wakes up, everything will be fine! There’s no need for a vigil.”

Li Zhi thought for a moment, realized it was true, and said goodbye to Cheng Yue, ”Okay then, Chao Qian and I will leave first.”

Cheng Yue went to the thoracic surgery department and found Yan Ye.

”How’s your sister?” Yan Ye, who was about to start an emergency surgery, simply said, ”Don’t worry, I’ll check on her after the surgery.”

Cheng Yue nodded, ”Go ahead! I’ll use the phone in your office.”

”Help yourself.”

Cheng Yue called his family to explain the situation. Qi Siyuan couldn’t sleep after hearing about her daughter’s condition and insisted on traveling to Nancheng City overnight.

Cheng Nanfang summoned a security officer in the middle of the night and, after packing briefly with Qi Siyuan, rushed from Jiangning to Nancheng City.

The night had deepened gradually.

Cheng Yue dozed off in front of Cheng Yu’s bed, overcome by fatigue.

Cheng Yu opened her eyes from a deep sleep. At that moment, the door creaked open, and a tall, dark figure slipped in.

”Luo Gang...” Cheng Yu spoke, her voice hoarse.

Luo Gang nodded, sat on the other side of the bed, and felt a wave of pain as he looked at Cheng Yu’s condition, ”I was only away for a few days, and you turned yourself into this. I have failed the trust Uncle Cheng placed in me.”

Before this trip to Nancheng City, Cheng Nanfang had sought him out.

He clearly told him that if he managed to take Cheng Yu to Nancheng City and cure her illness, he would work on convincing his daughter to marry him.

Or, if he touched Cheng Yu’s heart, and she agreed to marry him, Cheng Nanfang would not stand in their way either.

Yet, he had only been away for a short while, and then...

”I feel suffocated here; I need some air,” Cheng Yu said.

”Alright. Where do you want to go? I’ll take you there.”

”I don’t know. Just take me out first.”

”Okay.”

Luo Gang carefully lifted Cheng Yu from the bed and moved out of the ward with light footsteps.

It was already eleven at night, and the hospital corridors were silent.

”To the small garden downstairs?” Luo Gang asked Cheng Yu for her preference.

”No!” Cheng Yu thought for a moment and then said, ”To the twelfth floor, the rooftop!”

”As you wish.”

Luo Gang carried Cheng Yu up to the twelfth floor. The door to the rooftop was locked.

But that didn’t stop him, he put Cheng Yu down on the floor, took a pin from his clothing, inserted it into the keyhole, and jiggled it a couple of times to unlock the door.

A gust of cold wind rushed in, and the fresh air instantly filled Cheng Yu’s lungs.

Standing on the rooftop, she surveyed the entire city, her mood gradually calming, and a smile appeared on her lips.

Luo Gang, concerned about the chill, draped his jacket around her.

Cheng Yu turned to look at him and murmured, ”Why aren’t you Qin Jian?”

Luo Gang’s cheek muscles twitched a few times, but he remained silent.

”I want to see Qin Jian,” Cheng Yu suddenly said.

”It’s so late, how can I find him for you? Even if I’m willing to look for him, would he be willing to come?” Luo Gang’s deep and mellow voice hid a barely noticeable pain.
