Chapter 993: Chapter 1001 You Are Doing Well

”I thought I had killed someone,” Jane Sampson said. ”Every time I closed my eyes, I could see Henry Bright sprawling on the ground with eyes wide open in a grimace, and the detail of the blood spraying out seemed lucidly etched in my memory.”

For the first time in her life, Jane had encountered such a situation, the first time she had seen someone die before her eyes.

She was just an ordinary person; how could she not be scared?

She was just better at concealing her emotions than others; she was just pretending to be unafraid like everyone else.

Like when she stabbed Henry Bright’s hand with a hairpin, and blood spattered on the back of her hand, she felt almost nauseous, but she had to snatch the gun from his hand as quickly as possible.

During Henry Bright’s counterattack, she hadn’t realized James Black was already nearby. When she fired the gun, her hands were shaking, and every time she blinked, she fought hard to force the tears back.

James Black felt a slight pang in his heart, a kind of heartache that seemed indescribable, yet it was so profound he couldn’t ignore it.

He felt sorry for her.

”But just now, when you said you were the one who had fired the gun, my heart unexpectedly felt relieved,” Jane said. ”I know I’m useless, but I truly felt relieved.”

”You did well,” James Black whispered, pressing his lips gently to her eyelids. ”There were so many people in the film crew. If we had to switch you out for someone else as the hostage, our mission today wouldn’t have been completed so smoothly.”

”You are great, fantastic,” James Black softly reassured Jane. Anyone would panic at the time of killing.

Even James Black himself was no exception. He too had taken a long time to accept and adjust when he executed his first mission, firing a gun to kill a criminal.

And what about Jane Sampson, the girl who was still so kind-hearted?

”If today’s hostage had been someone else, they wouldn’t have had your abilities and courage to struggle against a gun-wielding murderer. Once they fell into Henry Bright’s hands, he would use the hostage to make us let him and his brother leave. Moreover, Henry Bright is very clever; he would use public opinion to pressure us. After taking a hostage, he would definitely let people know, using the star’s unique status to gain the attention of the entire internet realm.”

James Black explained, ”Once the news of a star being hijacked spreads, the difficulty of our mission would skyrocket. During the rescue, there would be even more things we’d need to consider. And on the internet, there are no shortages of netizens and fans with problematic brains. Henry Bright could also use the star’s fans to evade our pursuit.”

At this point, James Black paused, then added, ”In the end, the likelihood of Henry Bright killing the hostage is as high as ninety percent.”

”So, Jane, you are incredible,” James Black said, holding Jane Sampson’s face and gently pressing his forehead to hers. ”You are the pride of James Black, the pride of the team Sister-in-laws, and you should also be proud of yourself.”

Jane Sampson’s tears couldn’t be held back after what James Black said.

With tearful, blurry eyes, she looked at James Black, ”So, I haven’t been a bother to you, have I? I haven’t been so useless that I’ve troubled you, have I?”

What she feared most today was not injury or death.

What she feared most was becoming a nuisance, someone perceived as troublesome.

What she feared most was that those who had been kind to her would start to distance themselves because of it.
