Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 277: Chapter 277 Chiang Songhai’s Initiative

But now, she said it without even thinking.

Chiang Xiao sneered, ”Grandma, isn’t she causing trouble now? Isn’t it true that she makes our family’s life unbearable every single day? And what about Aunt Juan? Climbing over walls, eavesdropping, spreading rumors, stealing, snooping around the kitchen— are these things a niece-in-law should do? Our home is called a home, but in reality, is there any safety or privacy? If we don’t build a high wall, this kind of thing will keep happening. Would this incident have occurred if Aunt Juan hadn’t eavesdropped and reported to Great Aunt? Great Aunt is heartless, even brought so many people to deal with us, how can we not be on guard? And should we continue to be loving and compassionate?”

Ge Liutao looked towards Chiang Songhai.

This incident had truly terrified and deeply hurt her.

When those idlers swarmed in and beat Ge Dejun, her heart almost leaped out, feeling as if the world was collapsing.

At that moment, the movements and expressions of those people were particularly vicious, as if they were after their lives.

And the one who led this, unbelievably, was their respected elder sister-in-law, their close sister-in-law.

Although Ge Liutao was hesitant just now and somewhat worried, she couldn’t deny that upon hearing Chiang Xiao’s suggestion, she was quite willing in her heart.

Chiang Xiao also looked at her grandfather.

Chiang Songhai’s attitude had changed in the past couple of days, but Chiang Xiao still couldn’t be sure he would change to this extent.

The sun was still hanging in the sky, shining into the small yard, illuminating their poverty and hardship, and casting light on Chiang Songhai’s thin and weary face, though he was just past fifty. The smoke from the self-rolled tobacco was a faint bluish-gray, casting a somewhat sorrowful look in his eyes.

For a moment, no one spoke.

They all knew that building this wall was not only about separating two courtyards but also about the relationship between the two families. Once it was severed, things wouldn’t be like before. It also represented Chiang Songhai’s stance.

After a long while, just when Chiang Xiao was about to feel disappointed, Chiang Songhai stubbed out his cigarette on the doorstep with determination in his voice. ”Build it! And we should do it soon, to prevent further issues. Little, would it work if we used mud bricks? That’s easy to get, your Uncle Canyuan can get them. We’ll add more cement and sand, find a few more helping hands, and we can finish it by evening.”

Chiang Xiao’s eyes lit up.

”Okay! Great! We’ll get more people, and our family will provide dinner! Grandpa, should I go find Uncle Canyuan now?”

She hadn’t expected her grandfather to agree!

Moreover, once he had thought it through, he seemed even more eager than her!

Ge Liutao couldn’t help but show a smile.

”I’ll go. Ah Tao, you ask your husband if he’s free, and if so, ask him and Shi Zhuang to get some sand. Little, you go to Aunt Juan’s. I remember they had some cement left over from when they repaired their toilet.”

After realizing her grandfather had truly decided, Chiang Xiao saw his strong initiative and how he quickly delegated tasks.

”Alrighty!”

The family of three sprang into action immediately.

At this moment, Meng Xinian was on the phone with the town militia.

Zhao Xin crouched at the door, occasionally twisting his head to look inside.

What’s the commander trying to do? Hasn’t he always been reluctant to make calls to the Capital?

The phone rang several times before it was picked up. An elderly and somewhat feeble voice came through.

”Hello, this is Meng Donghai!”

”Grandpa, it’s Xinian.”

The breath on the other end of the phone became hurried, and the voice instantly filled with anger, ”You brat, you’re still alive, huh? You’ve really grown capable, haven’t you, you rascal!”
