Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Afraid of Never Having a Peaceful Day at Home

But if she couldn’t understand the notations, what could she do?

Chiang Xiao sat in the chair, flipping through the booklet, and spotted a relatively simple diagram on the previous page that resembled intertwining branches and flowers, with only two lines of notation beneath it. She thought for a moment, then took out paper and a pen, traced the diagram, and meticulously copied down the two-character notations as well.

Now she was even more eager to get to the provincial capital.

In City M of G Province, there was the largest bookstore, as well as a library within M City University. It had been said that during the turbulent times, thanks to the old principal’s connections with an Alliance Officer in the military, and the fact that several generals were alumni of M City University, these individuals had been instrumental in salvaging the university’s library from the chaos.

Latterly, various newspapers, magazines, and scholar interviews and reports had mentioned M City University Library, and students and scholars alike all thanked the old principal, the Alliance Officer, and the several generals. Without them, there was no telling to what desecration the library would have been subjected, and the precious collections within might have been lost forever. What a tremendous loss that would have been.

Being from G Province, Chiang Xiao had paid quite a bit of attention to the news about M City University Library back then.

Now she wanted to go to the provincial capital, to see if she could find her way into the M City University library and look for information on this kind of writing.

She couldn’t just sit on this book, unable to understand a single word, right?

However, M City University was not like it would be twenty years later, when it would almost become a tourist attraction open to all. The university’s administration was still quite strict at present, requiring student IDs and faculty work IDs for entry and exit, and even more so for borrowing books—a library card was necessary.

But regardless of this, how could she find an opportunity if she didn’t go take a look?

Fortunately, Chiang Xiao did want to meet a professor from the Art Department at M City University.

Besides these, there was nothing else in the Bamboo Hut.

However, Chiang Xiao was very satisfied, especially since there was a desk and a three-meter-wide tatami mat. It was sufficient for both rest and work, and very quiet, too.

As Chiang Xiao exited ’Space’, Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao had also taken their baths, with Ge Liutao having finished doing the laundry and was now drying the clothes in the yard.

The gates of the Old Chiang Family were tightly locked, and it seemed they hadn’t returned yet.

Chiang Xiao’s eyes shifted, and she walked over to Chiang Songhai, who was sitting in the bamboo chair smoking, and said, ”Grandpa, I want to discuss something with you.”

Chiang Songhai said, ”Little, go ahead.”

”How about we raise the height of the courtyard wall a bit?”

This was something Chiang Xiao had long wanted to do. In her past life, she had also thought about it, but at that time, she never brought it up. Back then, she harbored resentment toward her grandparents and only thought about escaping on her own, never considering the protection of her family or leaving together.

Chiang Songhai was taken aback, totally not expecting her to think about raising the courtyard wall.

Ge Liutao heard this and paused her work, turning her head with hesitation, ”Little, that’s, that’s probably not a good idea? If your grandaunt knew, she would definitely not be happy.”

Although the village didn’t have clear rules about what constitutes unauthorized construction, there were indeed many points of consideration, like the matter of raising the wall could cause disputes if it blocks light, wind, or prosperity for neighbors.

As for Ho Laidi, well that was simply...

Nobody could imagine the kind of things she would have cursed.

Ge Liutao added, ”I’m just afraid it’ll cause so much trouble that neither family will have peace.”

Worrying about the disturbance that would result in no peace for either family—had that been in the past, Ge Liutao wouldn’t have dared to even say such things, nor would she have felt comfortable doing so, fearing that Chiang Songhai would accuse her of disrespecting her sister-in-law.
