The Lovely Heiress Is Actually A God Beast

Capítulo 1536: Chapter 1536: Making the Journey Worthwhile

When Xiao Tong returned, his master rewarded him with a lollipop. Xiao Tong turned his back to eat it, while the Little Ghost with the pale face and black lips swirled around him, “Give me a bite, give me a bite…”

“So annoying! This is a reward from Master!”

With a crunch, Xiao Tong quickly bit the lollipop to pieces.

The Little Ghost with the pale face and black lips rolled around in the air, wailing and crying. Ghosts have always been unpleasant to hear when they cry, and with her purposely crying loudly, the Old Taoist rubbed his temples and tossed over a lollipop.

The Little Ghost with the pale face and black lips immediately stopped crying, leaned in close to the lollipop, and inhaled deeply: “Smells so good, so good~”

The lollipop never touched her, yet it visibly shrank, eventually turning into a white stick that dropped to the ground.

Xiao Tong snorted, picked up the lollipop stick, “I’ve told you so many times, stop littering!”

The Little Ghost stuck out her tongue, which was also pitch black, “Bleh bleh bleh~~~”

“Master, look at her, she’s always against me!” Xiao Tong pointed furiously at the Little Ghost.

The Old Taoist coughed dryly, too lazy to deal with the two little ones, and continued reading an ancient book.

Seeing that his master ignored him, Xiao Tong stomped his foot in frustration, threw away the trash, and hurriedly ran back to sit cross-legged at his master’s feet, “Master, didn’t you say not to let anyone know? Why do we have to pass on the message this time and let the owner of the hair know?”

“It’s different.”

“How is it different? Before, when others asked you to exchange lives, you just took the money and it was over. Why meddle this time? You always told us Taoists couldn’t meddle in others’ affairs, so why take on this life-exchanging job?”

“You have so many questions.”

“Master, you don’t answer me, of course I have more questions.”

“Alright, ask them one by one.”

The Old Taoist put down the book in his hand, looking calmly at his mischievous apprentice.

Xiao Tong looked up at him, asking the question that had long puzzled him, “Master, we’re cultivating in the mountains, why do we do these things, is it just for money?”

The Old Taoist shook his head, “It’s destiny.”

“Destiny?” Xiao Tong was puzzled.

“It’s destiny, and it’s a tribulation.” The Old Taoist pointed to himself, “In modern terms, this poor Taoist is just a tool.”

“Huh?” Xiao Tong was even more confused, widening his eyes at his master, “Master, can you say it more simply? You’re always speaking so mysteriously.”

The Old Taoist chuckled, “In our line of work, isn’t it supposed to be mysterious?”

“But that’s for outsiders, it’s different with me. You should say it simply, clearly, otherwise, I don’t understand, and I’d embarrass you outside.”

“Alright then, to put it bluntly, life exchange is originally a destined tribulation, and this poor Taoist is just acting as a tool, helping the fortunate establish tribulations, overcome it, or not.”

“What happens if they overcome it? What if they don’t?”

“The fortunate, at the beginning of their reincarnation, have already selected a Life Token, and their journey in the mortal world is to undergo tribulation. They chose this tribulation themselves, and I’m simply helping them complete their choice, understand?”

Xiao Tong blinked, seeming to half understand, “Master means this was their own choice to begin with, wanting to change a Life Token halfway for fun? And Master is the one they choose to help them switch Life Tokens? But why change from a good life to those unbearable fates? Isn’t that asking for trouble?”

“It’s precisely because they’re asking for trouble, so the journey isn’t in vain.”

“But if they know their fate was changed by you, they’ll think you’re a bad person. When they come looking for trouble here, you still had someone pass on the message to the owner of the hair, she’ll come to kill us then!”
