The Lovely Heiress Is Actually A God Beast

Chapter 1205: Chapter 1206: A Little Horn (Part 60)

After Bai Yu’s various dubious operations, the Eldest Princess resigned to fate and kept him in the military camp, spending days and nights together for three months.

Bai Yu couldn’t take any action, so there was no worry of him causing any trouble.

That night, only the two of them were left in the military tent, with Her Highness the Eldest Princess reviewing the data her subordinates gathered regarding the fake identity of The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan.

Although this person was a fake Heir of Marquis of Zhennan, he was actually also a bloodline of the Mansion of the Marquis of Zhennan.

Strictly speaking, he was also a cousin of Her Highness the Eldest Princess.

He was a child born to the Marquis during his southwest defense, with a kitchen maid.

Because the Marquis couldn’t stand the food cooked by the camp chefs, he found a good cook from outside. Later, when the cook fell ill, he had his daughter to substitute. At night, the Marquis got hungry, called for a midnight snack, and a young girl came to deliver it, and under the influence of alcohol, he took advantage of her innocence.

Later, he took care of the kitchen maid outside, considering her an unofficial mistress.

It was only one night, and the kitchen maid got pregnant.

The Marquis promised her that if she bore a son, he would elevate her to the position of honorable concubine and bring her to the Mansion of the Marquis of Zhennan.

Unfortunately, although she indeed gave birth to a son, she was not lucky enough to survive and died on the day of the childbirth.

The Marquis brought the son of the unofficial mistress to the Mansion of the Marquis of Zhennan, which greatly angered Lady of the Marquis of Zhennan. After lengthy negotiations between the couple, they ultimately did not grant this child the status of a concubine-born son of the mansion, but rather passed him on to the steward, raising him as the steward’s son within the mansion, usually following The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan as an attendant.

As the boy grew up, the two began to bear an increasingly striking resemblance, so he retreated to the shadows and became a Hidden Guard, sometimes even acting as a stunt double for The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan.

Hearing all of this, Bai Yu lowered his gaze: ”Is there a possibility that The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan truly died, and was long drowned.”

Her Highness the Eldest Princess shook her head: ”It wasn’t him who drowned. I sent someone to exhume the corpse, the coffin was empty.”

A counterfeit has no right to be buried in the ancestral grounds.

So the empty coffin also indicated, that The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan wasn’t dead, and back then, the one who drowned was an impostor.

”Where exactly is he hiding?” Bai Yu’s heart skipped a beat suddenly, his eyes revealing deep wariness, lowering his voice: ”The most dangerous place is the safest place! Perhaps... he’s long been lurking in the military camp!”

Her Highness the Eldest Princess’s face turned sullen; indeed, when she unveiled the mask and found the man wasn’t The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan, she had already sensed something amiss.

...

No anomalies were discovered during the extensive investigation of the military camp.

But this total absence of anomalies is the real anomaly.

Among so many people in the military camp, could it be that there truly isn’t a single suspicious individual?

Never mind a younger brother impersonating an older one in the military, even pretending to be someone else seems absent?

It’s absolutely impossible!

Unless the investigation crews themselves have issues!

It indirectly narrowed the scope down.

Her Highness the Eldest Princess personally investigated her trusted aides, as she had entrusted them to investigate this matter.

Sure enough, three people appeared highly suspicious.

All entered the military camp during the year The Heir of Marquis of Zhennan had his tendons severed.

...

Seeing the Eldest Princess deeply preocuppied, the now disabled Bai Yu could only use his wits, and thus spoke: ”Better to mistakenly kill than to let escape.”

Her Highness the Eldest Princess too understood this principle.

But all three were trusted aides, individuals who shielded her on the battlefield, those one could entrust one’s back to.

She was reluctant to mistakenly kill any of them due to suspicion.
