Reborn As An Interstellar Giant Mosquito

Before its forelegs could even hook onto his opponent’s body, its head was kicked.

It was immediately sent flying backwards in mid-air!

Utilizing the reactive force in mid-air, Jia Yan further increased his flight speed.

He shot past this protruding rock and swiftly flew upwards!

Meanwhile, the purple Glires, after pursuing for a while, seemed to be blocked by an invisible line.

With its compound eyes as cold as ice, it watched as Jia Yan’s figure receded into the distance.

“Why isn’t it chasing after me?”

Jia Yan oddly observed the purple Glires below and a question flashed through his mind.

But he quickly realized the reason!

“Oxygen!

It seems like my body is a bit short of oxygen!

I can’t use my strength!”

Jia Yan hastily decelerated his downward momentum in the tunnel, resting a moment on a rock surface.

He finally understood why the purple Glires had not chased after him.

Even he, a mutant mosquito that had only lived in the highly oxygenated underground world for a few days, was now feeling somewhat oxygen-deficient near the surface.

It made sense that the massive-bodied purple Glires, which had long adapted to the highly concentrated oxygen of the underground world through evolution, would not dare to venture too close to the earth’s surface!

But he was different.

Despite having undergone a mutation and ingesting the mysterious liquid twice in the underground world, his overall body shape was still based on the template of an external life form.

At least when it came to adapting to oxygen shortage, he would be more adaptable to outside conditions than the underground creatures!

“It doesn’t matter, I can adapt!

The mutation also brought changes to my respiratory system.

I just never had to use these changes while I was in the underground world…”

Typically, mosquitoes simply rely on respiratory holes at the side of their abdomen for involuntary breathing.

However, after his mutation, Jia Yan discovered a fundamental change to his respiratory organs.

Namely, minute muscles beside his respiratory holes were gradually extending out, forming a muscle group with a closing mechanism!

Although this is quite a basic change, Jia Yan discovered that by closing this muscle group, he was able to ‘inhale’ air from outside by utilizing the muscle combination inside his respiratory holes.

Moreover, after inhaling the air, his body’s oxygen conversion rate far exceeded his previous levels.

This was the reason why he could still approach the surface without activating his ‘autonomous breathing mechanism’.

Feeling assured that this ‘autonomous breathing mechanism’, which had not been activated once since his mutation, was working properly, Jia Yan tried using the closing muscles next to his respiratory holes.

“I can indeed inhale air, but it’s quite annoying and uncomfortable to get used to the constant breathing sensation like humans since I didn’t have autonomous respiratory organs before.

However, I was a human before, so it should be easy to get used to this sensation.

I just need to persevere for a few days!”

After activating the autonomous breathing mechanism, air quickly ‘entered’ into his body’s ‘combined organs’.

Then, through his altered combined organs, it was swiftly distributed to the parts of his body that required oxygen.

This way, the lack of oxygen issue was largely resolved!

Of course, with Jia Yan’s massive body, using such a simple ‘breathing organ’ to completely resolve the oxygen supply problem was essentially impossible.

He just has to reduce oxygen consumption as much as possible at all times or take frequent rests.

As for whether his body could mutate even further in the future, possess a stronger respiratory mechanism, or even surpass humans and transcend the ‘breathing’ stage, who knows!

At least Jia Yan still had hope.

His path of mutation still held great potential.

“It’s okay, I’ve been in the underground world for so long, and now that I’ve been driven out by the master, I can check out the outside and see if anything has changed.

I just hope that when I’m driven out from the inside, the master on the outside won’t welcome me either.

Then, there would really be nowhere for me to go in this world.”

The “master” Jia Yan referred to outside was naturally humans.

Although he said so in his heart, he understood very well that his extremely exaggerated and mutated large body would definitely cause a huge stir if he went to the outside world.

So, he has to be cautious.
