Chapter 425: Chapter 251 Pie in the Sky Wen Ruan_3 Chapter 425: Chapter 251 Pie in the Sky Wen Ruan_3 There was a moment of silence before Tang Song spoke, “I went to the factory today because I suddenly received a notice that our printing factory might be closing down, and they are going to lay off 80% of the staff first.”

“Ah!?” Qian Guixiang turned pale with fright, “What happened? Didn’t they say we got new business?”

Wen Ruan was stunned, “Wasn’t the printing factory doing well? Why is it suddenly closing again?”

Wen Jianxin shook his head, “The performance has always been poor, and we haven’t been paid for two months. I just didn’t tell you.”

Then, he began to explain the situation as he understood it.

Yanbei Printing Factory’s main business was printing books, documents, materials, promotional items, and other types of print materials.

With the popularization of digitalization, the business had been shrinking.

Previously, a few large orders from old state-owned enterprise clients were sustaining it, barely keeping it operational.

However, due to various reasons such as equipment aging, market competition, and increased environmental regulations, the factory had lost half its clients in the last six months and was now in a stage where expenses exceeded income.

They used to mainly seek the leaders to see if there was any possibility of easing the situation.

Listening to her father’s account, Wen Ruan took a deep breath, feeling a mix of complex emotions.

Their family and her father’s side of the relatives originally lived in villages outside the North Third Ring.

There used to be many small micro-printing factories there; calling them factories was actually a bit of a stretch as they were more like small workshops.

The pay was very low, there was no social insurance, not to mention any benefits.

Despite this, it still provided a relatively stable income for the local villagers.

Later, as the area started to plan for subways and parks, developers flocked in, and the villages began to be demolished.

To ensure people’s livelihoods, the government re-planned and attracted investments.

Eventually, they established a formal printing company, Yanbei Printing Factory, which hired these workers.

The wages increased, they started paying for five types of insurance, and everything became more stable; everyone was happy.

That was back in 2008.

Deep blue uniforms, spacious and bright workshops, upscale printing machines, and a clean, tidy warehouse full of materials…

This was her father’s favorite topic after meals and also a common topic at family gatherings.

Because of the job at this printing factory, even though their resettlement housing had yet to be finalized, everyone was still coping.

But now, even this job was at risk, and emotions were running high.

After all, many were still renting houses.

…

After hearing Wen Jianxin’s description, Qian Guixiang asked urgently, “So what should we do? You are in your fifties now, it will definitely be hard to find a job, and you’re not of retirement age yet.”

Last year, buying this house had drained all their savings, and now Wen Ruan was still paying the mortgage.

If they were to live off their savings, depending on their daughter to support them, they would be extremely anxious.

Moreover, considering Wen Ruan’s boyfriend was so outstanding, if he knew about their family’s situation, would he think differently of Wen Ruan?

Wen Jianxin sighed deeply, “Let’s see what the leaders say; if it comes to it, I’ll change jobs and see what else I can do.”

He was responsible for equipment maintenance at the factory, but that equipment was already on the verge of obsolescence; finding a similar job would definitely be difficult.

“Ah, what a mess. Just when things were looking up for Ruannuan, and we bought a new house. But now…,” Qian Guixiang sighed and sat down, “If I had known, I wouldn’t have quit my job two years ago.”

She had worked in a textile company for several years, but due to allergic rhinitis and other health issues, she often fell ill and was hospitalized.

After Wen Ruan came back from Imperial City, she persuaded her to quit her job and rest at home to recover.

Looking at her anxious parents, Wen Ruan pursed her lips and said, “Dad, Mom, I also have something to tell you.”

“What’s the matter?”
