My Apocalypse System Arrives 10 Years Early

Some children raised plants, while others raised animals. The plants included cacti, tomatoes, aloe vera, snake plants, asparagus ferns, garlic, green onions, bok choy, potatoes, and peanuts. The animals were mostly things like goldfish, turtles, and small hamsters.

The reason Li Xinyue chose to raise a rainbow chili pepper was because her ”Granny” (Granny Li Xiang, her great-grandmother) had told her a story. Back when they lived on the surface, there were several pepper trees in their courtyard garden that produced lots of peppers every year. During the harsh winters, when many other vegetables froze to death, those pepper trees thrived with lush leaves, bloomed profusely, and bore abundant fruit.

Zhao Xueqing had transplanted those very pepper trees to the Spirit Plant Garden, located in an underground farm in the suburbs of City No. 03. Li Xinyue had even begged her mother to take her there for a visit.

When she saw the pepper trees, they were indeed standing tall with canopies of leaves, even taller than her mother. In contrast, most people’s pepper plants were very short and had to be planted anew each year.

They had managed to raise an herbaceous plant into a woody one.

In fact, chili peppers were one of the easiest plants to grow, not requiring much meticulous care, and their flowers were quite beautiful.

In Underground Dungeon 03, rainbow chilies could stay green all year round. Their flowers were mostly white, looking fresh and elegant. After blooming, they began to produce round fruits. These started out green and would slowly turn light purple, purple, yellow, orange, and red. They got their name, ”rainbow chili,” because fruits of multiple colors could be found on the same plant. They were also called five-color peppers or small ornamental peppers. Not only were they beautiful, but they were also edible.

Every student at Li Family Village kindergarten was required to raise a potted plant or an animal. If they chose a plant, the school encouraged them to pick various types of vegetables. Purely ornamental plants or flowers were not highly recommended.

This was because, in the era of the Apocalypse, purely ornamental things were not as practical as vegetables. It was also a way to cultivate agricultural knowledge in the children, so that they wouldn’t grow up completely ignorant, unable to even tell the difference between chives and wheat shoots.
