Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 114: Chapter 110: From Now On, You Will Live as a True Human Being

At the moment when he saw the item name ”Perfect Artificial Soul,” even though the item description did not mention it, Wu Chang knew it was an exclusive item Ebert made for Erin.

Erin was Ebert’s greatest masterpiece, from the selection of raw materials for each part of her body, the engraving of each alchemy magic circuit, to the creation of the artificial soul.

Ebert poured all his heart, passion, and expectations into Erin, witnessing her growth the entire time.

When he looked back, he realized his feelings for Erin were beyond treating her as a masterpiece; it was more like treating her as his daughter.

Because of this, when he saw Erin’s face full of pain in the alchemy device, he would rather give up his greatest dream, even at the risk of being discovered by the church, to forcibly terminate the experiment.

Ebert’s last blood-colored will in life was to destroy the ritual at Count Jemaine’s Manor, to completely liberate Saintess Erin.

His persistence lay in the words ”complete liberation.”

The incomplete soul without negative emotions was both the church’s method of controlling Erin and a limitation on Erin’s height after becoming a divine being.

So that even if she became an artificial god, she couldn’t defy the Great Saint Mother.

The perfect artificial soul was Ebert’s method to free Erin from church control and restore her freedom.

Wu Chang had reason to suspect that the collaboration with Jemaine was not because Ebert couldn’t let go of the artificial divine being.

But because he wanted to use the forbidden knowledge collected by Jemaine during his persecution of heretics to complete this perfect artificial soul.

At the same time, he used Jemaine’s ambition to remove the Holy Mark from Erin’s body.

As long as the Holy Mark was gone, Erin would no longer be irreplaceable to the church, and then there would be an opportunity to escape the church’s control with Erin.

Unfortunately, Ebert underestimated Jemaine and the church, ultimately ruining everything.

The situation still had a chance, but he encountered Wu Chang, inexplicably exiting the stage to meet his end suddenly.

The soul-completed Erin, as if waking from a very long dream, just awoke at this moment.

She looked at Wu Chang and said with a heartbreaking voice, ”Can you tell me all about the church, Briff Island, and Professor Ebert?”

”Of course, that’s what I promised Professor Ebert.”

Wu Chang told Erin all the stories he experienced in the replica, along with the truths he deduced.

His earlier statements were that Professor Ebert had entrusted Erin to him, and to highlight the rationality and legitimacy of this act, he appropriately beautified Ebert’s motives.

Ebert became someone forced by the church to create artificial divine beings.

The church, unable to defend itself, naturally took all the blame.

Jemaine was even more of an utterly heinous villain who lured Ebert to the island under the pretense of saving Erin, confining him and forcibly controlling him with a Golden Flying Fish.

In short, in Wu Chang’s portrayal, both the church and Jemaine were venomous beasts, while Ebert was a completely selfless and brave old father who endured hardships to save Erin.

And he was the brave and righteous stranger, personally trusted and entrusted by the old father with Erin at his end.

Most importantly, all of this was true.

As Erin recalled the past, she found each event matched the truth Wu Chang explained, especially events only she, Ebert, and Gelman knew.

If it wasn’t Ebert speaking personally, Wu Chang would never know.

This made her have to believe it.

The impact of her origin almost entirely shattered Erin’s worldview. She looked at Wu Chang, her eyes misty.

The eyes are the windows to the soul. Through Erin’s eyes, Wu Chang saw that this strong and decisive girl, who once faced death fearlessly, now had cracks in her heart.

As if just a little more pressure would break it completely.

”Mr. Sekos, I don’t know what’s wrong; I seem to be sad.”

Wu Chang gave Erin a hug and whispered in her ear:

”It’s okay; from now on, you will live as a real, flesh-and-blood human being. You can fully experience emotions you couldn’t before, and if you’re sad, cry it out.”

For ordinary humans, crying is an inherent skill; everyone is born with tears.

But for Erin, crying was very unfamiliar.

Looking at Erin, who seemed clumsy even in tears in his arms, all he could do was increase the intensity of the hug.
