The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 2372: Chapter 2372: Upside Down (Part 4)

”Yeah, my child also wrote one, look, I think yours looks better.”

”No, yours looks better. Look at that ’Fu’ character, it looks just like the ones you buy in town...”

”No way, yours looks better, I can tell. This is ’Chun’, spring, how nice? It looks just like the spring flowers...”

Dong Wenxiu and Feng Zilan were also happy, constantly bringing sweets and pastries. Once a child finished writing, they could come and get a handful of candies or a piece of pastry. They were having a great time.

Education is highly esteemed in the minds of the common folk; not everyone can afford to pick up a brush. But now, their children can write couplets. Who knows, maybe they might even become a champion in future. Scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants—reading makes one superior, how can you not be excited?

Amidst their excitement, the villagers were even more grateful to Yang Ruxin.

”Ancestor, look, this is written by our Goudan.” Yang Huangshi held a piece of red paper, eyes moist with emotion. Although she couldn’t read, it didn’t stop her from getting excited. ”Goudan can recognize characters too.”

The third granduncle was also delighted: ”Mr. Chu said, Goudan—no, at home we call him Goudan, but outside we should use his formal name Yang Rugui. Mr. Chu said Rugui is a promising student, and we should nurture him well.” Goudan is his youngest great-grandson. Agreeing to let him follow Xiaofeng as a study companion was the right decision, and this year’s effort really paid off.

”Yes.” Yang Huangshi nodded excitedly, ”I’ll go home and paste it up.” She turned and hurried off.

”It’s upside down.” The third granduncle couldn’t help but call out from behind.

Yang Huangshi paused, glanced at the couplet in her hand, and quickly flipped it the right way.

The third granduncle nodded approvingly.

”Ancestor, what’s written on this?” Yang Huangshi hesitated but eventually asked.

The third granduncle stroked his beard and called over Goudan: ”Rugui, read your couplet to your mother.”

Yang Rugui glanced at Mr. Chu, then stood up straight and read aloud: ”Heaven and Earth in harmony bring prosperity, safety and happiness bring many blessings. The horizontal inscription is ’Four Seasons of Peace.’”

Everyone couldn’t help but cheer.

”Fantastic.” Yang Huangshi beamed, her smile so wide that her eyes almost vanished. ”Prosperity, blessings, and peace. My son is amazing.”

”Quick, let’s go home and paste it up.” Yang Guofu quickly pulled his wife away, knowing if they stayed any longer, she might burst with joy.

Yang Rugui quickly lowered his eyes. His mother’s laugh earlier exposed her molars—he really couldn’t bear to watch.

Chen Yingzi couldn’t help but mutter, ”Isn’t it just writing a couplet? What’s so impressive?”

Goudan’s parents had walked too far to hear, but the third granduncle’s eyes were still sharp, and his hearing intact. He glared over, ”If you can’t speak nicely, go home. It’s not impressive? Show me if you can write it.”

”I...” Chen Yingzi’s face turned beet red with embarrassment.

Yang Guowei hurriedly went over to pull his wife away: ”Let’s go home.”

Chen Yingzi left, feeling utterly wronged.

No one took this small episode seriously, and the lively atmosphere continued until it finally wrapped up by noon.

”Brother, they’re not giving you any respect.” Guan Qingyue had been standing by the door for a long time, watching people coming and going, carrying couplets and chatting happily. She felt displeased and turned to look at Guan Qingshu, who was still studying. ”You’re a scholar, how can they disregard you like this?”
