The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 767: Chapter 767: Madam Shen Has Also Arrived (4)_1

However, before everyone could shift their attention away, the county magistrate’s madam arrived, escorted personally by the arrest officer Xie Zhanfei and a team of government officials. Instantly, everyone realized that this establishment had backing, being under the personal protection of the county magistrate himself. So, what to do? Naturally, they couldn’t afford to offend them, and not only that, they needed to ingratiate themselves. Thus, all parties swiftly made the optimal decision: to bring gifts, and it would be ideal to seize the opportunity to curry favor with the magistrate’s wife.

Hence, they initiated what one could call the diplomacy of madams.

This included the Shen Family.

Shen Yilan was actually somewhat taken aback. She had wanted to bring Yang Ruxin down in order to make her serve her own purposes, but she hadn’t expected that her adversary had connections with the magistrate’s family. Even more surprising was seeing the Shen Family’s sedan chair arriving as well. If she now went in complaining of a stomachache to continue framing Yang Ruxin, that would be utterly foolish. Sighing, she realized she had underestimated the country girl and would need to find another way.

Yang Ruxin hadn’t expected so many to come bearing congratulatory gifts either and was momentarily confused. However, seeing that everyone’s words revolved around Madam Fang, she understood they were there because of the magistrate’s wife.

Yuan Mengzhu understood as well, which is why she didn’t stay in the back courtyard but quickly came to the front hall. She exchanged a few casual words with the madams who were keen to forge ties with her, though her words suggested that the Fang Family regarded Yang Ruxin highly.

Cai Wenjuan, a seasoned player in the business world, had everyone realize Yang Ruxin’s significance amidst her titters and laughter.

The visiting madams, being astute, began to shower Yang Ruxin with praise as well.

All had brought congratulatory gifts.

Knowing Yang Ruxin lacked experience, Yuan Mengzhu had her own servants, Jixiang and Ruyi, help out. At the very least, they needed to categorize the gifts received according to their value for future reciprocation. In fact, this was the subtlety of gift-giving: through the exchange of gifts, you gauge if your values align, and you continue the relationship or sever it if something isn’t suitable...

”Aunt Yuan, I’m not familiar with these people. Maybe we shouldn’t accept the gifts,” Yang Ruxin suggested after looking over the gift list and feeling the weight of obligation. ”Moreover, they came because of you...”

”When you are in business, you naturally have to deal with many people,” Yuan Mengzhu earnestly advised Yang Ruxin. ”Although they came for my sake, the courtesy is toward you. Unless it’s someone you’ve already had a falling out with, refusing could offend many people inadvertently...”

Yang Ruxin nodded slightly.

”At worst, we accept the gifts now and find an opportunity to send back something of equal value later. Then we can simply cease contact...”

”Okay,” Yang Ruxin agreed, finding the advice sensible. ”Thank you, Aunt Yuan.”

”You, girl...”

Just then, someone else entered from outside, heading straight towards Yuan Mengzhu to offer a salute: ”Madam Fang, it’s an honor to see you.”

Yuan Mengzhu gave a slight nod: ”Madam Shen, it’s been a long time.”

The last time the Shen Family celebrated a grand birthday, Yuan Mengzhu had attended the feast with her son. It was because of that particular event that her son had fallen ill, nearly losing his life, but ultimately, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

”Indeed, it has been several months,” Shen Jiashi replied with a smile. ”I heard your son is doing better? How wonderful, truly a blessing from Amitabha...”
