Star Martial Era: The Way of Star Light Cultivation

Chapter 1652: Chapter 677: Brother-in-Law and Son-in-Law Selection

Dongxuan Star Realm.

As the place of Emperor Dongxuan’s path to Dao, the Dao Palace of Dongxuan Star Realm extends endlessly, layered and rising, truly a grand edifice of thousands.

At this moment, in front of the Dao Palace square of Dongxuan Dao Palace, True Monarch Tianzhang, who oversees the Dongxuan Star Realm, sits cross-legged on the Dharma platform. In the square, the space fluctuates continually, and one silhouette after another emerges from the spatial fluctuations.

All around the Dao Palace square, cultivators are gathered.

Most of the returning candidates from the selection process remain silent as the silhouettes are carefully observed, and powerful Divine Thoughts sweep across without reservation, searching and examining.

Occasionally, when a candidate returns, cheers erupt, with a few expressing indescribable delight.

Only the high-ranking nobility of Dongxuan Star Realm are gathered here.

Almost all high-ranking nobility of Dongxuan Star Realm send their bloodline descendants to participate in the selection process unless their bloodlines are completely severed.

Power can be inherited, but cultivation levels are truly not inheritable.

For aristocratic families, a supreme talent is an extraordinary surprise, generally only hoping for genius among their descendants, or at least someone with broker-level potential.

If a person has some aptitude, aristocratic families can use resources to elevate their cultivation level.

It may cost double, or even three to five times, the cultivation resources compared to a genius.

Otherwise, what are they saving resources for?

But the selection process of Dongxuan Star Realm presents another threshold.

There are too many with high cultivation but low combat ability.

If those with high cultivation but low combat ability long hold power in Dongxuan Star Realm, one can imagine how weak the future overall strength of Dongxuan Star Realm might become.

In fact, it is precisely because the overall strength of Dongxuan Star Realm has been declining.

Dongxuan Star Realm is the place where Emperor Dongxuan attested the Dao, and Dongxuan Dao Palace was once the foremost Holy Land for cultivation under the command of Emperor Dongxuan in the Tongxuan Domain.

But in the past thousand years, Dongxuan Star Realm has been claiming, not only failing to have new Emperors, but also becoming the weakest among the five great Star Realms under the Tongxuan Domain of Emperor Dongxuan.

The main reason is too many rulers with high cultivation but low ability.

Two hundred years ago, True Monarch Tianzhang was kicked from the Imperial Palace back to Dongxuan Star Realm by Emperor Dongxuan, after enduring ridicule from all sides, he resolved to reform.

He learned the method of another great Star Realm, Yuan Mountain Star Realm, began the selection process, and arranged various identities of Marquis candidates and Daozi.

The first ban stipulates: Non-Marquis candidates are not allowed to inherit noble titles or serve as Main Seal officers.

The second ban stipulates: Non-Daozi are not allowed to rule a Star Domain or serve as high-ranking officers of the main combat corps.

These two bans nearly cut the root of noble houses.

Back then, it was only executed amidst a rolling of severed heads.

Now, it has become a convention.

Zhu Shizhen, this Yutang King, is also participating in the selection process because of this.

His title as Yutang King is merely a designation within the Yutang Royal Mansion since he is the sole descendant of direct bloodline this line, theoretically, none other than him should be the Yutang King.

But only by passing the selection process to become a Marquis candidate can he be recognized by the Dao Palace as the Yutang King.

Even the bloodlines of the four major True Monarch Mansions in Dongxuan Star Realm must do so, let alone other nobles.

The status of Marquis candidates and Daozi has been steadily increasing in Dongxuan Star Realm for years.

Now, it has evolved into a kind of tradition: The Dao Palace seeks a groom!

Many successful candidates from the selection process come from Small World Star Domain and have become optimal choices for families where mediocrity prevails.

After marrying a groom, family power can be inherited, noble houses preserved.

And those chosen as grooms can gain unique cultivation resources.

This has been a compromise of Dongxuan Dao Palace against the backlash of noble families over the last two hundred years.
