The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

At nine o’clock sharp the next morning, the phone in Li Jian’s office rang on time.

He glanced at the caller ID—it was the provincial department’s number, and he had some guesses in his mind.

After answering the call, the voice of Director Hou from the Provincial Department Homicide Investigation came through.

”Director Hou, long time no see,”

Li Jian picked up the receiver, his tone respectful yet warm.

”Your personal call must mean there’s an important directive, isn’t it?”

The other end of the phone brought a brisk laugh: ”Mr Li, good to hear from you!”

”I’ve carefully read through the report on the recent solved case involving three deaths from your Jiang City Bureau, and it’s written excellently, the investigation process is particularly commendable.”

Director Hou paused, his tone becoming serious: ”The Provincial Department has decided to organize a province-wide criminal investigation system video conference at nine o’clock tomorrow morning.”

”The focus of this meeting is to promote the advanced experiences and innovative practices in homicide investigations across regions.”

”Especially the collaboration mechanism and evidence fixation method you adopted in that three-person homicide case, which is quite instructive.”

”I won’t hide it from you,” Director Hou sincerely added, ”Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been searching for a model case that represents the latest level of homicide investigation.”

”It wasn’t until seeing the report you submitted that I found my direction.”

”Therefore, we’d like to specially invite your bureau’s Captain Jiang An, to personally visit the Provincial Department tomorrow and deliver a special lecture to the online criminal investigation colleagues from across the province.”

”I wonder if Captain Jiang can manage to fit this in?”

Li Jian immediately responded after listening: ”Director Hou, you’re too kind.”

”As the Provincial Department is our superior guidance unit, you can directly assign any task.”

”No matter how big the matter is, we will prioritize it without fail.”

”I will ensure this is implemented immediately, rest assured.”

”That’s great, thank you for your strong support Mr Li.”

Director Hou’s tone eased significantly, ”Later, we’ll have colleagues from the Secretariat directly contact Captain Jiang An to coordinate the specifics.”

”Alright, no problem.”

After hanging up the phone, Li Jian immediately dialed Jiang An’s cell phone.

At that moment, Jiang An was in his office, engrossed in organizing the materials from the last case.

”Mr Li, just after starting work you’re already looking for me, is there a new task again?”

”Hahaha,” Li Jian chuckled heartily, ”Would I be in such a rush to find you if it wasn’t urgent?”

”I mentioned a few days ago, the Provincial Department highly praised our homicide investigation efforts this time, particularly recognizing our innovative approach in thinking and application of techniques.”

”The specific arrangement is made now—the Provincial Department specially invites you to give a special lecture to the criminal investigation colleagues across the province tomorrow morning at nine o’clock.”

”A special lecture?”

Jiang An seemed a bit surprised, ”I have indeed prepared some materials, but have yet to organize them systematically, and the content is not yet comprehensive.”

”No need to worry about that,” Li Jian decisively made the call, ”Just focus on preparing the lecture materials all day today, temporarily set aside other tasks.”

”However, starting formally tomorrow morning at nine o’clock, won’t it be too rushed?”

Mr Li slightly raised his eyebrow, with a hint of surprise in his tone: ”With such a sudden arrangement, can you really handle it?”

Jiang An chuckled softly on the other end, his tone calmly unhurried: ”Oh, rest assured.”

”When it comes down to it, homicide investigation is all about those established processes and methodologies; I’ve mastered them all these years.”

”It’s nothing more than systematically sorting through site investigations, visits, checks, and technical investigations, then making a summary.”

”Preparing these is no real issue.”

”Hahaha, I knew that getting you involved wouldn’t go wrong!” Li Jian laughed as he spoke, ”Even if you weren’t allowed to prepare in advance, and were asked to speak impromptu, you’d likely manage to articulate thoroughly.”

After hanging up the phone, Jiang An quickly opened his laptop to prepare the presentation.
