Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

After discussing, the village head made a final decision: ”If we go directly to find Old Stone without any evidence, no one would believe us. Since Old Stone has done this kind of thing more than once or twice, he’s very likely to do it again. We’ll wait to catch him in the act.”

The leadership team members all agreed.

”But do we have to keep an eye on him every day?” someone asked.

”That’s right, we can’t keep listening every day. Besides, if we watch him daily, he’ll be on guard, won’t he?”

The village head thought about it, and agreed: ”I need to think about this.”

”No need to think, village head. This afternoon, he’ll definitely ask Jiang Wanwan to help in the store again. At that time, we’ll listen outside, and as soon as we find him showing bad intentions, we can go in and catch him,” He Fusheng said.

”That’s a good plan. Alright, this afternoon none of us leaders will go home. We’ll all go and see. If it’s really him, we won’t let it slide.” The village head decided.

Everyone responded positively.

By evening, Jiang Wanwan went to He Family to find Ning Chenguang.

”I still need your help...” Always going to Ning Chenguang, Jiang Wanwan felt a bit embarrassed.

But if she didn’t find Ning Chenguang, she knew she’d end up locked in the dark room by Grandpa Shi again.

She was really scared that Grandpa Shi would do that to her again.

”Wanwan, this can’t go on,” Ning Chenguang said.

”Are you saying you don’t want to help me anymore?” Jiang Wanwan looked at him with her big, pleading eyes.

”No, it’s not that I won’t help you. I’ve already thought of a way to free you. Wanwan, he’s a bad person, and avoiding him won’t stop him from looking for you again.”

”Tell me, what can I do to help myself?” Jiang Wanwan understood this too and hoped someday she wouldn’t be entangled with this old man anymore.

”Go by yourself tonight.”

”What? I... I’m scared...” Jiang Wanwan lowered her head, and recently all she saw when she closed her eyes was Grandpa Shi’s grim face.

She was really terrified! She would cry under the covers late at night, hiding from her grandparents.

”Don’t worry, you won’t get hurt,” Ning Chenguang promised her.

But Jiang Wanwan hung her head and said nothing.

”Do you trust me?” Ning Chenguang patted her shoulder, looking at her very seriously.

Jiang Wanwan nodded: ”I trust you.”

”Then go by yourself tonight. I promise you’ll never encounter this situation again,” Ning Chenguang patiently explained. ”Someone will come to rescue you tonight. Don’t worry!”

Jiang Wanwan knew that Ning Chenguang couldn’t go with her.

So she nodded, slowly turned around, and went with a very heavy heart.

The shopkeeper Shi Yukuan was sitting in the store selling things, the scratches He Yue left on his face still hurt, and he kept checking them in the mirror.

Whenever he saw the wounds on his face, he felt uneasy.

He worried that little He Yue would go back and tell, but after waiting all afternoon, there was no sign of He Yue making any trouble.

It seemed she hadn’t spoken up.

With the sky getting dark, he figured that Jiang Wanwan probably wouldn’t come.

Thinking about how he had given the Jiang family so many things for nothing, and now unable to get Jiang Wanwan, the little girl, made him feel a bit angry.
