Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

In the afternoon, after Yan Ye communicated with the hospital regarding Ji Chuan’s condition, both parties reached an agreement.

Ji Chuan can be transferred for treatment since the hospital he works at is better ranked and offers a better medical environment.

Ji Chuan himself is willing to be transferred and has signed the agreement.

By evening, the Yan siblings had already transferred Ji Chuan back to the PLA Affiliated Hospital, and he directly moved into a ward.

As soon as he returned, the hospital was in an uproar; from the hospital leaders to department colleagues, everyone came to visit.

In that tiny ward, people came and went incessantly. Yan Huan felt exhausted watching, feeling she can’t get a word in edgewise, and having no time to be alone with Ji Chuan, she simply went home first.

......

Yan Ye sat on the couch playing chess with his father, while Lin Qiushu held the child, watching quietly from the side. The little one blinked wide, watery eyes at the chessboard, with chubby hands in his mouth.

”Yan Ye, do you think Ji Chuan’s injuries are quite serious? How about we go visit him in the hospital after dinner?” Lin Qiushu, upon learning about Ji Chuan, asked her husband what he thought.

”No. Around here, it’s not customary to visit people at night. If you want to see Ji Chuan, just go tomorrow morning.” Feng Yuzhi finished wrapping dumplings and came out of the kitchen for some air. She happened to overhear her daughter-in-law mention visiting the sick at night and casually commented.

”Alright. Let’s listen to Mom then.” Qiushu, having grown up abroad, wasn’t accustomed to so many norms. Since her mother-in-law deemed it inappropriate, she decided not to go.

”You’d think the heavens really weren’t watching. Ji Chuan, being a doctor saving lives, how many people has he saved with a scalpel throughout his life? Logically, that boulder should have avoided hitting him. How could it hit Ji Chuan?” Feng Yuzhi muttered to herself.

”You and your superstitions. What does it mean when they say ’unexpected events from the heavens’ or ’misfortune and fortune’? Anyone living in this world can encounter misfortune, Ji Chuan included.” Yan Luquan, bothered by his wife’s idealistic statements, retorted.

”Old man, can’t you keep quiet while playing chess?” Feng Yuzhi glared at her husband and returned to the kitchen, ”I’ll just ignore you and make chicken soup for Ji Chuan to help him recover.”

Just as Feng Yuzhi entered the kitchen, Yan Huan came through the door.

As soon as she entered, she slumped onto the sofa, looking fatigued.

”Yan Huan, why are you back?” Lin Qiushu asked casually, seeing her return at this time.

”Don’t mention it, there are too many people at the hospital. They’re all Ji Chuan’s colleagues, visiting him. The ward was so bustling, I couldn’t get a word in, so I came back early. I’ll go see him tomorrow.” Yan Huan said with relief.

”If you’re back, is there anyone taking care of Ji Chuan?” Lin Qiushu asked her.

”Ah?” Yan Huan was taken aback, realizing she hadn’t considered this at all, ”I completely overlooked that.”

”You, you.” Lin Qiushu laughed, ”I think you better go back later. If you don’t, Ji Chuan will be left alone in the hospital without anyone to take care of him tonight.”

”Actually... the hospital would arrange staff to take care of him, right?” Yan Luquan chimed in.

”Is that the same?” Feng Yuzhi heard and came out, telling Yan Huan, ”You should go. Starting today, move in and take care of Ji Chuan!”
