Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Hmm.” Shen Qiqi nodded and reached out to Cheng Yue again, ”Come on, hold my hand!”

”Alright. But can you go a bit faster? It’s too sunny out here.” They had been walking under the blazing sun all morning, and he just wanted to sit comfortably in the cinema for a while.

”Even if it’s sunny, it’s a blissful sun!”

.........

Yan Huan saw this entire scene.

Seeing Cheng Yue holding Shen Qiqi’s hand, with her leaning on his shoulder, the scene was unprecedentedly harmonious.

She kept watching the two of them from afar until they stood in front of her.

Shen Qiqi held Cheng Yue’s arm, her face full of happiness, as she walked up the steps one by one. Both of them were taken aback when they saw Yan Huan standing at the cinema entrance.

Shen Qiqi’s smile froze on her lips.

”Yan Huan?” Cheng Yue thought he had mistaken her for someone else.

”Cheng Yue!” Yan Huan smiled, her gaze fixed on their intertwined fingers.

Cheng Yue caught Yan Huan’s gaze, suddenly withdrew his hand, and hurriedly explained to her: ”It’s not what it seems. We...we are...”

”Lovers,” Shen Qiqi said calmly.

”Qiqi!”

”Aren’t we? Didn’t we agree? A one-day couple! For these twenty-four hours, you’re entirely mine!” Shen Qiqi looked angrily at Cheng Yue, ”Are you backing out?”

”No! Not backing out!” Cheng Yue didn’t want Yan Huan to misunderstand anything and quickly explained, ”I’m going back to Nancheng tomorrow to find you. My parents have agreed. Wasn’t Qiqi always an obstacle before? Now Qiqi and I have agreed, we’ll be a one-day couple. After today, there will be no more emotional entanglement between us!”

Looking at Cheng Yue’s anxious explanation, Yan Huan pursed her lips, and there seemed to be a trace of complexity in her gaze: ”Cheng Yue, you don’t need to explain anything to me. It’s already over between us.”

”Over?” Cheng Yue felt as if he had been hit hard in the chest, ”Who said it’s over? I haven’t given up my efforts, so why can you unilaterally declare it’s over?”

”Your efforts?” Yan Huan’s smile was somewhat bitter, ”Yes, you have indeed been trying. But your efforts have had no effect. Cheng Yue, you have too much to care about. Your parents, your Shen Qiqi, what’s between us is not just a gap, it’s an insurmountable chasm! Do you understand?”

”I don’t understand!” Cheng Yue, agitated, stepped forward and grabbed Yan Huan’s hand, ”How is it a chasm between us? I’ve resolved all the obstacles now! I’ve put in so much effort just to be with you! Haven’t you been waiting for me all these years? We’ve endured such long and dark days, and now that we’ve finally seen the light of victory, you want to give up?”

”Yes.” Yan Huan forcefully withdrew her hand from Cheng Yue’s grip, ”I’m too tired of waiting. I no longer have the strength to continue, so I’ve given up! Isn’t this for the best? If Qiqi is in trouble, you’re worried about her and can abandon everything to be with her. Without me, you can be with Shen Qiqi without worry! It’s a win-win situation!”

”You... you don’t care about me anymore? Are you willing to abandon everything after waiting all those years, just when you were so close to happiness’s finish line?” Cheng Yue was burning hot with intensity.
