Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Catching an adult isn’t easy, but catching a child is the easiest thing in the world.

This time, Scarface really miscalculated.

He didn’t expect that even though Yan Huan was scared out of her wits, she still remembered to run away. She always remembered what her sister said, telling her to escape quickly, or else her fate would be equally tragic if she didn’t.

So, on this day of flying yellow sand, she ran away.

Yan Huan just kept running, running until the world turned dark, her frightened legs feeling weak, not daring to stop.

It wasn’t until she couldn’t run anymore that she fell to the ground.

She was too exhausted and had no strength left. Thinking about being caught again soon, Yan Huan couldn’t help but cry loudly.

At this moment, a pair of feet stopped in front of her.

Yan Huan screamed with fright, curling up like a scared rabbit.

A hand reached out: ”If you fall down, you need to get up. Why are you crying?”

Yan Huan glanced at the hand in front of her, neither big nor small, with long, fair fingers, no calluses like her brother’s hand. Holding back tears, she looked up at the person standing in front of her.

It was a spirited boy, looking no more than twelve or thirteen, with a gentle smile on his face, completely non-threatening.

She slowly reached out her hand towards him.

The boy pulled her up with a strong tug: ”Look at you, crying like a little flower cat! I can’t even tell what you originally looked like!”

Yan Huan lifted her sleeve to wipe her tears, but instead of cleaning her face, she smudged it even more.

Seeing her clumsy action, the boy laughed: ”Let me help you.”

”No! No need!” Yan Huan hurriedly blocked his hand, ”I can do it myself.”

”Alright. Little sister, in this dirty weather, why are you running around instead of staying at home?” The boy looked at her clothes, which were different from the village’s, sparking his curiosity.

”I... I got lost. Mom is ahead, I couldn’t catch up!” Yan Huan dared not tell him she was a kidnapped child.

The deceased sister had said that the people in this village couldn’t be trusted, and if caught, it would be over. So she lied casually.

”Do you need my help?” The boy looked suspiciously at the small badge of a great person on her clothing.

”Brother, can you take me to the village entrance?” Yan Huan asked tentatively.

The boy smiled and said, ”Sure. Are you hungry? I have food.”

”Hmm.” Yan Huan nodded.

Along the way, Yan Huan kept nibbling on that half piece of hard steamed bun.

As they were about to reach the village entrance, the boy heard what sounded like an ox cart from behind: ”Is someone still going to the fields in this weather?”

”That dead girl, who knows where she ran off to.”

”Catch her and strangle her, then it’s all over.”

”Stop talking nonsense, go find her! She’s supposed to be my nephew’s bride!”

Yan Huan was eating the bun when she suddenly choked and started hiccupping non-stop.

”Are you a kidnapped child?” The boy turned to ask her.

Yan Huan’s tears started dripping down, her small hand clutching the boy’s hand tightly: ”Brother, save me! Don’t hand me over to them! I don’t want to be sold to a fool as a bride.”

The boy’s eyes showed sympathy, and he reached out to pat Yan Huan’s head: ”Don’t be afraid! With your brother here, I won’t let them take you away!”

”Thank you, brother! I’d rather be your bride than theirs.”

”Alright.” The boy was amused by her remark.

”Go, hide behind that tree. I promise not to reveal your hiding place.”
