Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Ji Shuanglin and Meng Qingmei spent a few minutes digesting the answer.

”Are you saying Yan Huan can’t leave Nancheng?” Meng Qingmei looked at Yan Huan, ”What’s going on? What kind of illness is this?”

”I don’t know either. Ji Chuan said it’s a psychological illness. If I leave Nancheng, I can’t stop wheezing when the weather is dusty.” Yan Huan truthfully revealed her condition.

She didn’t know if Meng Qingmei would accept her.

If her illness could be cured, that would be the best outcome, but what if it couldn’t?

A condition that’s been going on for over twenty years, can it be cured overnight?

Therefore, she worried about what if Meng Qingmei didn’t agree? After all, not everyone can make such a sacrifice.

”Are you undergoing treatment now?” Ji Shuanglin asked Yan Huan.

”Yes. I’m in treatment,” Yan Huan replied, ”To be honest, I don’t know if it will be effective. Everything is just a trial now.”

Since she decided to be with their son, she didn’t plan on hiding anything from these two elders.

As the saying goes, if you marry a chicken, you follow the chicken; if you marry a dog, you follow the dog; if you marry a stick, you carry it with you.

In other words, wherever the husband is, the wife will be. Whatever kind of life the husband provides, she will live that life.

There are few like her who, when getting married, ask the husband to follow her instead.

But it’s not unheard of.

”To put it bluntly, whether Yan Huan’s illness can be cured is really uncertain. That means if I want to be with her, wherever she is, that’s where I’ll be.” Ji Chuan clearly expressed his stance to his parents.

”So, are you saying you want a wife and not your parents?” Ji Shuanglin asked sharply.

Yan Huan couldn’t say anything, so she could only wait for Ji Chuan’s reply.

”I want a wife. I also want my parents.” Ji Chuan’s lips hinted at a smile, ”I already have a plan. It’s just whether you, my parents, agree or not. But I think you certainly will.”

Meng Qingmei and Ji Shuanglin exchanged a glance, quickly reaching a consensus.

”Alright!” Meng Qingmei slapped the table, startling the other three, ”Since this is your choice, as your parents, we’ll support you. No matter where we live, wherever family is, that’s home.”

”So you’re saying you two agree?” Ji Chuan smiled at his mother, ”Are you really willing to leave behind these neighbors and the place you’ve lived for most of your life?”

”What if I’m unwilling? But I’m more unwilling to lose my son and daughter-in-law. Life is like this; you can’t have the best of both worlds. You have to make choices.” Meng Qingmei saw things clearly.

She also understood the rarity of her son’s relationship.

Back in the day, weren’t she and Ji Shuanglin deeply in love? Despite various obstacles, they overcame them, and only they truly knew the hardships along the way.

Now, with their son, they didn’t want to add pressure from the parents.

”Dad, what do you think?”

”I listen to your mom.” Ji Shuanglin looked lovingly at his wife, ”Wherever your mom goes, I’ll go. If she’s in Jiangning, I’m in Jiangning. If she chooses Nancheng, then I’ll go to Nancheng. You’re all grown up and will definitely have your own lives, and us old folks won’t interfere.”

”Thank you!” Ji Chuan turned to Yan Huan, ”You don’t need to worry anymore. You will have enlightened in-laws in the future.”
