Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Thank you. Thank you for granting me this honor.” Ji Chuan was overjoyed.

He wasn’t sure if he understood correctly, but Yan Huan shouldn’t be rejecting him now. However, acceptance... might still be a distance away. But he wasn’t afraid. As long as he was given a chance, he was sure he could bring Yan Huan home.

An Hao took the train and left, and Ji Chuan turned to ask Yan Huan, ”Do you have any plans today?”

”I’ll go with your plans.” Yan Huan, unusually gentle, said, ”Wherever you say, Little Douding and I will accompany you all day.”

”I’m not Little Douding!” Ning Chenyang protested.

Ji Chuan ignored his protest, looked up at the bright sunshine overhead, and said, ”How about we go boating in the park? It’s not often we get a break, let’s not waste this beautiful time.”

”Okay.” Yan Huan agreed with a smile.

”Oh, great! I want to go boating, I want soda, and ice cream!” Ning Chenyang jumped up excitedly, ”I want three bottles of soda, two ice creams!”

”Is it because your mom is not here you’re acting up?” Yan Huan looked at the mischievous kid, unable to hold back a scolding, ”You little rascal, listen to me, I’m not your mom, my temper is not as good as your mom’s.”

”I can see that.” Ning Chenyang rolled his eyes at her, ”My mom is my real mom! You’re the stepmom!”

”Godmother!” Yan Huan corrected.

”What’s the difference between a godmother and a stepmom? Isn’t a stepmom the one who always wants to hit the kids? Didn’t you often threaten to hit me?” Ning Chenyang shook his head and sighed, ”I can just imagine, if you have kids in the future, how miserable would they be?”

”Eh? A few days without seeing you and you’ve become quite the smart mouth! Being so disobedient, I won’t even buy you an ice cream.”

”Hmph!” Ning Chenyang put his hands on his hips, looked up at Ji Chuan, and babbled, ”Uncle Ji, are you thinking of becoming my godfather? If so, you better try to please me. Otherwise, I might spill some inside information to Uncle Cheng Yue.”

”Hey, you little rascal, itching for a beating, aren’t you?” Yan Huan was so angry her teeth itched, ”If you keep talking nonsense, I won’t spare you.”

”Quite adorable.” Especially with the way he called him godfather, it made Ji Chuan’s heart blossom with joy. He smiled and pulled Ning Chenyang closer to him, observing him for a moment, ”If only your dad had your charm.”

”I think so too. At home, my dad only has eyes for my mom. I sometimes doubt if I’m even his real son.” Recalling the cold shoulder he got recently, Ning Chenyang felt quite displeased, ”I say, Uncle Ji, let’s get moving!”

”Alright!” Ji Chuan, in his excitement, lifted the fifty-something-pound little fellow onto his shoulder, ”Let’s go!”

Late spring had passed, and early summer had just arrived.

The azure sky was free of any clouds, and the breeze gently swayed the willows, making ripples on the emerald lake.

The place was bustling with people, all here to relax on the weekend.

A lot of people were here to go boating on the lake, forming a long line at the ticket booth.

”You two wait here, I’ll come back after getting the tickets.” Ji Chuan said.

”Go ahead. We’ll wait for you here!”

”Godmother, go buy soda! Buy ice cream!” Like all kids, Ning Chenyang couldn’t resist the allure of treats.

”I really can’t deal with you.” Yan Huan said helplessly, having no choice but to drag Ning Chenyang a short distance away to buy soda. After taking a few steps, Ning Chenyang was drawn in by an old man performing tricks on the nearby grass.
