Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2122: Chapter 2117: Doing My Utmost to Make Amends

And to manage to arrange everything within such a brief time, causing a man-made car accident, and still manage to steal the data right under their noses, that person is definitely not simple!

Up till now, Qin Jian couldn’t figure out how Yuan Yunong leaked the data in the bustling hospital.

Hen Zhiyuan had said everything he wanted to say, waiting for Qin Jian’s response all along, but never heard him utter a single word.

”Captain Qin, can you just say something?” He was getting a bit anxious.

”Isn’t it too late to say these things now?” Qin Jian finally turned to look at Hen Zhiyuan and said, ”If you had stepped up back then, maybe all those things wouldn’t have happened.”

Perhaps, as soon as Yuan Yunong appeared, it would have triggered enough alert for them, and they wouldn’t be troubled by Lin Qiushu’s presence.

”...I didn’t want to ruin General Guan’s reputation because of this, and... indeed, I couldn’t bear that charge. Fortunately, someone else took the blame...” Hen Zhiyuan sighed, ”I know I was wrong. The past is the past; I just want to do something to make amends.”

”Fine. You want to do something to make amends? You absolutely can! Keep a close watch on Hou Zicheng for me! If we manage to expose Hou Zicheng together in the end, I might consider not bringing up the past.” Qin Jian said.

What’s past is past, saying more does no good.

What’s meant to happen has happened; revisiting old issues now would only add more blemishes to General Guan’s military career.

”Alright. I promise you! Rest assured, this time I will do my very best to make amends.” Hen Zhiyuan said, then stood upright and gave Qin Jian a solemn military salute, ”Thank you, Captain Qin!”

”We’re not soldiers anymore; you don’t need to salute me now.” Qin Jian said while watching the drizzling rain outside, ”If it hadn’t been for those things, even if you had retired, you could have stayed in the public security and legal system! You wouldn’t have ended up being nothing now.”

”It was my momentary greed back then! Nearly got you and Tian Niu killed!” Hen Zhiyuan said with deep remorse, ”Back then, I was in a trance! Only thinking about moving up! Replacing your position, staying in the army a few more years! But never thought... Captain Qin, I know you surely won’t forgive me! But still, I have to say sorry to you!”

”I accept your apology.” Qin Jian said.

”So you’re saying you forgive me?” Hen Zhiyuan said incredulously, ”You really have a big heart! Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gotten to your current position!”

”No need for flattery!” Qin Jian smirked slightly, ”Seeing that you are willing to change this time, I don’t hate you anymore! Even if I hate you, aren’t you living well anyway? A man... can’t move forward if he keeps dwelling in the past. The burdens that shouldn’t be carried, it’s time to let go.”

Besides, even if he forgave Hen Zhiyuan, Hen Zhiyuan might not be able to forgive himself.

”Thank you! You will definitely have a promising future!” Hen Zhiyuan said excitedly to Qin Jian, ”General Guan said you are a rare talent! If you can prove your innocence in this matter, he will recommend you... He said you will be promoted to colonel soon.”
