Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Alright. I promise you! Gu Shuangshuang, you really didn’t choose the wrong man!”

Tian Niu was still holding Nannan, showering her with kisses, while Gu Shuangshuang and her second sister started their journey back.

That night, back at the army district courtyard, Gu Shuangshuang entrusted Nannan to her second sister’s care, and guzzled down a bottle of red wine, getting herself completely drunk and unconscious.

She had no idea how long it had been when she finally regained some awareness, only to find her throat swollen and sore, making it extremely difficult to speak.

She felt as though there was a flame dancing and burning inside her, urgently in need of a cold drink of water to quell the fire.

She tried hard to open her eyes but found her eyelids too heavy; groggily, she reached out her hand, fumbling towards the bedside table.

”Don’t move, be careful not to pull out the needle.” The familiar voice brushed past her ear—there was no mistaking it, An Hao was here.

”Throat... hurts... can’t open... eyes...” Gu Shuangshuang struggled to say.

As soon as she finished speaking, a warm towel was draped over her eyes.

Soon, Gu Shuangshuang felt her eyes were much better, and when the towel was removed, she slowly opened her eyes.

An Hao was sitting by the bedside, frowning, looking at her with concern: ”You’ve finally woken up?”

”What happened?” Gu Shuangshuang had no recollection of events after getting drunk.

”You nearly went to meet Marx!”

Gu Shuangshuang could hardly dwell on the matter of meeting Marx, she patted An Hao’s hand and pointed to her throat, struggling to say, ”Some water first, please, I’m parched!”

A cup of warm water went down slowly, bringing Gu Shuangshuang a bit of energy.

The second sister rushed in holding the child, tears streaming down her face: ”Sis, why such despair? Why attempt suicide? If there’s suicide, at least take my brother with you first!”

An Hao chuckled at these words, and before Gu Shuangshuang could open her mouth, he patted the second sister’s shoulder to comfort her: ”Don’t worry! With me around, your sister-in-law won’t commit suicide! She’s not foolish enough to hand over her husband and child to someone else! At most, she’s just brooding, drowning her sorrows in wine.”

The second sister looked gratefully at An Hao, her face showing relief at having him there.

She knew An Hao probably had more to discuss with her sister-in-law, so she left with the child, leaving them some time alone.

”You know everything?” Gu Shuangshuang looked at An Hao with a bitter expression.

”Yes. Thanks to the second sister calling me, otherwise I wouldn’t have known you went through such a major incident. But I’m really curious, what on earth did you say to the second sister to make his biological sister stand so firmly by your side?”

An Hao asked curiously.

”The second sister, that girl has a strong sense of justice!” Gu Shuangshuang said with emotion, ”I’m so thankful that she was here with me all this time!”

”I can’t believe so much has happened to you in just a month.”

”An Hao, do you know? I feel like my heart is shattered, and the sky is collapsing.” Gu Shuangshuang said, sitting up and leaning against the headboard, muttering softly.

”I understand your feelings and emotions. But don’t you find this whole situation very strange?” An Hao always felt there was something off about Gan Tian.

After this incident, An Hao somewhat regretted not informing Gu Shuangshuang about the situation between Gan Tian and Tian Niu at the time, so she could have been better prepared.
