Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1838: Chapter 1837: Picking Bones out of an Egg

The two female soldiers in the kitchen didn’t rest for a moment, washing vegetables, cutting them, and stir-frying dishes. They made sure Duan Aihua didn’t need to lift a finger with anything they could handle.

After three people spent two hours bustling around in the kitchen, they prepared a table full of food.

It was almost time to eat when Tian Niu just returned, bringing his elderly mother along, and surprisingly, his younger sister, the second sister, came along with his mother.

The moment they walked in, the house became lively, as if it had burst into chaos.

As soon as Tian Niu’s mom saw Gu Shuangshuang and her child, she ignored everyone else and directly rushed towards the mother and daughter, exclaiming, ”Oh my little darling! My little Nannan! Let grandma hold you!”

”Mom, you’ve just arrived and you must be tired after such a long train ride! Please rest first!” Gu Shuangshuang motioned Tian Niu to pour some water for the old lady.

”Not tired, not tired! As long as I see the child and you, I’m not tired at all!” Tian Niu’s mom said happily, ”Come, let me hold the child!”

”Alright then.” Gu Shuangshuang smiled and handed the child to the old lady, ”Take a look, isn’t your granddaughter beautiful?”

”Yes. Beautiful, so beautiful! Her eyes are like stars in the sky!” The old lady gazed lovingly at her granddaughter, reaching out to touch the little face.

”Hey—!” Duan Aihua wasn’t having it, immediately stepped forward to snatch the child from the old lady’s arms, ”Did you wash your hands before holding the child? Rubbing around on the train all day, aren’t you filthy?”

Upon hearing this, Tian Niu’s mom’s previously smiling face instantly became awkward, ”It wasn’t on purpose. We are country folk, rough people! We never really paid attention to these things.”

”You used to live in the village, now you’re in the city! You need to learn to be more civilized!” Duan Aihua said bluntly, looking down on her mother-in-law.

Duan Aihua was not satisfied with this marriage; they weren’t a match, not right for each other.

She reluctantly agreed only because of her daughter Gu Shuangshuang’s insistence. Accepting Tian Niu didn’t mean she would accept Tian Niu’s family or the people from the Tian Family.

”Mom, what are you doing? You’ve ruined the whole good atmosphere.” Gu Shuangshuang’s face immediately sank. In front of so many outsiders, her mother embarrassed her mother-in-law, how could Tian Niu feel alright?

”You silly girl, isn’t Mom doing this for the child?” Duan Aihua shot a glare at Gu Shuangshuang.

”Mom, it’s my mom’s first time in the city, and her habits are different from city life. I’ll slowly get her to change, please don’t be angry.” Tian Niu’s mom came happily, hadn’t done anything, and yet got scolded by the mother-in-law, naturally making Tian Niu uncomfortable.

But he couldn’t get angry, he could only endure it, even if his own mother was wronged.

Mother-in-law is hard to deal with and won’t consider the bigger picture, and if they start fighting now, it might make the two families enemies in the future.

”Changes must be made. Before that, I want to lay down three rules!” Duan Aihua was getting excited as she spoke.

”Mom! What are you trying to do?” Gu Shuangshuang didn’t want to argue with her mom in front of everyone, but she also didn’t want to see her mother-in-law suffer, ”Can’t we just have a happy family? Can you stop fussing over these little issues?”

Originally a small matter, Duan Aihua would let it pass after a few words.

But seeing her own daughter favor her mother-in-law over her own mother, Duan Aihua’s jealousy arose, ”Gu Shuangshuang, say that again? Your mom isn’t doing what’s best for you? You just look down on your own mom? Everything I do is wrong, isn’t it?”
