Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1804: Chapter 1803: Extending a Helping Hand

”I don’t know.” Gan Tian wasn’t sure what she was feeling either. ”I just want to see what she looks like.”

”Alright, alright, you win. Let’s go, let’s play detectives for once and scout out the family quarters,” Lin Miao said helplessly.

Gan Tian and Lin Miao entered the family quarters.

This was the first time since joining the army that the two of them had visited the family area.

It was lunchtime, and there weren’t many people moving around in the family quarters. They wandered around, looking to guess which building Tian Niu might live in.

”I heard that officers at the company level should live closer to the entrance. The farther in you go, the better the environment gets, and the more secluded places are where the high-ranking leaders live,” Lin Miao said while pointing toward the fork ahead. ”Turn left.”

”Are you sure?” Gan Tian asked.

”Not really. If we’re wrong, we’ll just start over! What are you afraid of? Your legs are your own, aren’t they...?”

”Wait!” Before Lin Miao finished her sentence, Gan Tian heard what sounded like a faint cry for help. It was very soft but full of pain. ”Let’s go. Turn left—it seems like someone needs help.”

Gan Tian and Lin Miao broke into a jog. After turning the corner, they spotted a pregnant woman leaning against a sycamore tree, clutching it with both hands. Her expression was pained, and she was biting her lower lip so hard it seemed like she was enduring immense agony.

The moment Gan Tian saw the woman, her intuition told her who she was.

If her guess was correct, this woman must be the same one who called Captain Tian at noon. She was Captain Tian’s wife.

”Gan Tian? Let’s go! Help her!” Lin Miao, already some distance ahead, turned back to see Gan Tian frozen in place. She ran back, grabbed her hand, and pulled her forward. ”Come on!”

Gan Tian snapped back to reality and quickly followed Lin Miao, running up to the woman.

Gu Shuangshuang saw the two female soldiers running toward her and immediately looked hopeful. ”Help me! Please, help me!”

”Sister-in-law, what’s wrong?” Lin Miao immediately supported Gu Shuangshuang and asked anxiously.

”I’m about to give birth!” Gu Shuangshuang was in so much pain that beads of sweat covered her face. She gripped Lin Miao’s hand tightly and struggled to speak. ”Quick, I can’t wait any longer! Take me to the hospital!”

”Miaomiao, you stay and support her! I’ll go call for a car!” It was impossible for them to walk her to safety on foot. Any further delay might lead to real trouble. Saying this, Gan Tian turned and sprinted off.

Twenty minutes later, a military jeep pulled up.

The vehicle stopped in front of Gu Shuangshuang. The driver, a soldier, quickly jumped out and rushed to assist her. ”Sister-in-law, get in the car!”

Gan Tian and Lin Miao helped lift Gu Shuangshuang into the vehicle.

After a brief discussion, they decided to accompany her to the hospital in the jeep.

.........

Tian Niu had just returned to the barracks when someone informed him that his wife was about to give birth and had been taken to the affiliated hospital.

He rushed there in a hurry, and when he arrived, the corridor outside the delivery room was filled with family members pacing nervously. Among them, two striking figures in military green uniforms stood out.

The two female soldiers stood motionless, craning their necks to look toward the delivery room.

”Gan Tian! Lin Miao!” Tian Niu, who had already run into them a few times before, recognized them instantly. ”How’s my wife? Is she in the delivery room?”

”Yes.” Gan Tian nodded slightly, her calm and sincere gaze meeting his. She spoke softly, ”She’s inside! Don’t worry too much—there are doctors and nurses in there. She’ll come out safely for sure!”
