Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1761: Chapter 1760: I Have My Difficulties

”What’s this? Commander, even you can’t hold back anymore? Thinking about getting yourself a wife?”

”You guys don’t know, do you? Our commander over here dreams about his wife at night. Even mutters in his sleep, calling out ’wife... take it easy...’ Honestly, I’m curious, just what kind of dreams is the commander having?”

The warriors all started teasing him.

”Get lost! Each and every one of you have a death wish, huh? Daring to joke around with me? Watch out, I’ll whip you into shape when we get back!” Zhao Dong roared, then raised his foot and kicked each warrior on their backside.

Even the drug enforcement officers started laughing. After a life-and-death battle, sharing a bit of harmless banter lightened the mood; everyone laughed, and all the tension and fatigue vanished into thin air.

An Hao chuckled along, releasing Qin Jian, ”Sorry, I got a little too worked up earlier. That was out of line!”

”No, it’s all good! Sister-in-law, we actually enjoy watching you lose your cool. Feel free to do it more often!” Zhao Dong joked cheekily.

”You little rascal, you hardly act the part of a PLA commander. Behave yourself!” Qin Jian berated Zhao Dong, then turned to the anti-drug team’s captain and said, ”The dead rat is at three o’clock. You can go examine the body.”

”Alright. However, those two individuals seem to be tied to the drug traffickers. We’ll need to take them back for further investigation!” the captain said.

”Wait a second!” An Hao quickly interceded on their behalf, ”Captain, those two aren’t involved in drug trafficking, nor have they participated in any illegal activities. They were coerced!”

”According to intelligence reports, those two are the drug trafficker’s daughter and her future fiancé.”

”Yes, that’s true! But they truly haven’t done anything unlawful. On the contrary, I wouldn’t have made it this far without their help! Along the way, they kept finding ways to help me escape!” An Hao explained to the captain.

”Well... we’ll still need to investigate to determine the truth.”

”Say something already!” An Hao nudged Qin Jian’s arm. She’d promised Mu Mian that she wouldn’t let Lin Sheng’s future be ruined, especially given that Lin Sheng was coerced. An Hao had to testify for him.

Qin Jian felt a deep sense of pity for Lin Sheng.

He had been waiting for Lin Sheng to explain himself, but to his surprise, Lin Sheng kept his head down and didn’t say a word.

”Lin Sheng!” Qin Jian called out to him.

”Yes, Commander!” Lin Sheng stepped forward, snapped to attention, and saluted Qin Jian.

”You still remember I’m your commander?” Qin Jian furrowed his brows in anger and reprimanded, ”Since you still remember you’re a warrior and I’m your commander, then why did you leave without permission? And you even dared to injure the sentinel? You’ve got nerve! In all my years as a soldier, you’re the first to break discipline like this! What do you have to say for yourself?”

”I... I messed up! I know I messed up! Commander, but I had my reasons.” The memory of his escape tore at Lin Sheng’s heart.

Still, if the same choice presented itself again, maybe this time he would consider going to Qin Jian with the truth.

”Reasons? No matter how big your reasons might be, you still can’t flout military discipline! Not only did you disobey orders, you even injured the sentinel. You’ve really got guts! Do you think nobody matters?” Qin Jian grew angrier with every word.
