Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1750: Chapter 1749: Take a Short Break

After a day of fleeing, the sky darkened, and they found a relatively flat spot amidst the forest.

Having escaped all night and another day, everyone was stretched to their limits with exhaustion.

Mu Qiankun estimated that the police wouldn’t arrive for a while, so he instructed everyone to rest for a bit.

He had planted explosives near their resting spot; if anyone approached, he would be alerted immediately.

This was the last batch of explosives, so after resting tonight, they would have to proceed at full speed the next day.

Once they crossed this mountain, they would not be far from the national border.

If everything went smoothly, they would reach it by tomorrow.

In truth, Mu Qiankun had been anxious these past days for a reason. On the other side, there was a long-term partner, who could colloquially be called a ”middleman.”

He bought drugs from locals and then acted as the intermediary to sell them to Mu Qiankun.

Since Mu Qiankun didn’t understand the local language, he needed such a middleman.

Last time, after Mu Qiankun finished his transaction, he casually arranged a time with the man, hinting he might make another trip within a few months.

The middleman’s business was thriving, and Mu Qiankun constantly worried that he might not get his goods this time, which would make the whole journey a waste.

The escape so far had been grueling; if this trip ended up being for nothing, Mu Qiankun felt he would be driven mad with frustration.

The mountain at night was freezing cold, and to avoid detection, they couldn’t start a fire.

A group of people huddled together, chewing dry rations and drinking cold water.

After the meal, Mu Qiankun, worn out, retrieved two pieces of clothing from his basket, laid them out on a pile of leaves, and then lay down: ”Big Guy and Mouse, you two take turns keeping watch! We’ll rest for two hours and then move out!”

”Got it. Brother Kun, you rest well! We’re relying on your leadership to get out of here!” Big Guy said.

Mu Qiankun nodded, then glanced at An Hao, who was sitting nearby with her eyes closed, leaning against a tree, and said, ”You two keep a close eye on that little devil of a girl. She’s a crafty one!”

”Rest assured, Brother Kun!” Mouse glanced at An Hao and smirked.

Mu Qiankun, drained, fell asleep immediately, snoring away as soon as he lay down.

”Mouse, are you sleeping first or should I?” Big Guy yawned, asking Mouse while already lying down.

”You go ahead first.” Mouse smiled faintly.

”Alright. Then I’ll get some sleep first.” Big Guy said and fell asleep in no time.

Lin Sheng and Mu Mian, unable to sleep due to the thoughts they harbored, considered this an opportune moment for escape. If An Hao could seize the chance now, perhaps she might still have a shot at survival.

Once they crossed the border, the two worried that An Hao might never return again.

Right then and there, the two decided they had to try again. If they missed this last chance to escape, the difficulty would increase exponentially.

Mu Mian slowly stood up, walked over to An Hao, gently patted her, and whispered, ”Sister, I need to use the restroom. Can you come with me?”

An Hao opened her eyes, looked at Mu Mian, and nodded, ”Alright! I’ll go with you!”

”No way!” Mouse refused decisively.

”Why not? Look around, it’s all mountains, and it’s pitch black! I really don’t dare go alone!” Mu Mian looked at Mouse with a grievance-filled expression.
