Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1741: Chapter 1740: I Request to Join the Rescue

”No matter how careful you are, there’s always a slip-up! Besides, this is an open area, not some sealed-off place. In this vast expanse of dense forest and mountains, someone showing up is normal,” Zhang Jianguo said.

”Commander, this isn’t normal!” Qin Jian pointed to the dark mountain not far away. ”This area is the border. Cross this mountain and over the river, and you’re in another country. It’s a sparsely populated place—who normally comes here? Even if someone did, they’d follow the main road, right? The main roads are marked as military zones, and regular people wouldn’t go any further. So, anyone entering must have ulterior motives. This terrain is treacherous and variable, great for military exercises but not suited for casual visits, let alone sightseeing!”

”So, are you saying we should keep pressuring that guy?” Zhang Jianguo asked.

”Yes. We’re bound to get something out of him!” Qin Jian said confidently.

”But that depends on whether he talks. If he keeps silent, the police can’t hold him indefinitely, can they?” Zhao Dong’s temper flared again. ”Don’t you think these people could just find something legitimate to do? Work a proper job, come home to a warm dinner with their wife and kids—how comfortable would that be? Damn it! I’d love to have that kind of life, but I can’t!”

”Alright! Just because of what you said, I’m telling you now—you better transfer out of the military next year!” Zhang Jianguo glared at Zhao Dong, finding him particularly annoying tonight.

”No, no, no! Commander, you can’t retaliate against me like this!” Zhao Dong said with a forced smile.

The three were still talking when a young warrior ran over to them, saluting the trio: ”Report! Commander, we just received a call from the anti-drug squad! During this operation, they managed to capture the drug trafficker who injured Captain Wu!”

”Well, their efficiency is pretty impressive!” Zhang Jianguo breathed a sigh of relief. ”Looks like we won’t need to wait for orders from the higher-ups tomorrow. We can all head back!”

”Commander... but just now, I heard the drug traffickers captured three military doctors as hostages! They contacted us to confirm if they were indeed our medical staff!”

”Military doctors?” Qin Jian’s eyes filled with alarm as his heart leapt into his throat.

”Yes. Two men and one woman. Just over two hours ago, they were abducted from the county town by the drug traffickers,” the warrior reported.

Upon hearing this, Qin Jian’s expression changed drastically. Without saying a word, he dashed back to the tent like an arrow.

The operator had already hung up the phone when Qin Jian urgently ordered him, ”Quick! Confirm with the hospital whether those three military doctors from Nancheng City are still there!”

When the operator put down the phone and responded, ”Report, Commander! It was confirmed—they’re indeed the three military doctors who are missing.”

”Damn it!” Qin Jian cursed fiercely, then turned and bolted out of the tent.

Both Zhang Jianguo and Zhao Dong followed closely behind, fully aware of Qin Jian’s urgent and agitated mindset—it was written all over his face.

”Do you think it could be An Hao and the others...”

Before Zhang Jianguo could finish his sentence, Qin Jian stood upright and snapped a salute to him. ”Report, Commander! I request permission to join the rescue mission!”

”If I say no, will you still go?” Zhang Jianguo asked, staring directly into Qin Jian’s eyes.

”Yes, I will. She’s one of the most important people in my life! And I trust you’ll not stop me, Commander. Besides, they’re military doctors from our unit—they were abducted right under our noses. That is absolutely unacceptable!” Qin Jian said with unwavering determination.
