Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1726: Chapter 1725: Are You Stupid? Or Am I Stupid?

”This guy is still stubbornly refusing to tell the truth, even in front of Zhang Jianguo: ’Sir, you’ve got the wrong guy! I’m participating in the exercise!’

Before his words were finished, Zhao Dong stepped forward and delivered two solid punches to his stomach.

’Ah!’ The man let out a miserable cry, clutching his stomach as he squatted down on the ground. ’Who are you trying to fool? With your build, you’re claiming to participate in the exercise? A seasoned soldier like me can spot you for what you are in an instant! Do you think I’m stupid? Or are you the one playing dumb?’

The man, battered by those two punches, felt as though his guts were churning like a raging river. He was in extreme agony, wanting to vomit but unable to, his mouth agape in a ceaseless dry heave.

’Which unit are you from?’ Qin Jian looked down at him, his thin lips opening slowly to utter the question.

’I’m from...from our unit!’

’Unit number? Your name?’

’Uh...’ The man stammered, unable to respond.

’What’s the matter? Still refusing to admit?’ Qin Jian sneered coldly, bending down to grab the man’s shirt collar tightly. ’Take a good look yourself—how does your uniform differ from ours?’

’This...’

Qin Jian snatched the military cap off his head and slapped it against his face. ’You think you can fool us by stitching together some fabric and passing off this garment?’

’Come on, spill it! How many of you are there? What’s your purpose in sneaking in here?’ Qin Jian pressed him further with sharp questioning.

’I took the wrong path, okay?!’ The man cursed his own bad luck internally but resolutely refused to admit what he had done.

’Bullshit! You got lost, huh? Why didn’t you end up wandering into some mountain ravine? Spill the truth, or I’ll let you taste my fists!’ Zhao Dong, who despised people who beat around the bush, snapped with fury.

’I really don’t know! I know nothing at all! I don’t even understand how I ended up here! Sir, please have mercy!’ The man begged repeatedly.

Upon hearing this, Qin Jian’s eyebrows furrowed deeply as anger surged within him. He raised his leg and kicked the man hard, sending him sprawling onto the ground. ’Cut the crap with me! Answer—are you involved in drug trafficking? How many people did you bring? Do you realize you’ve already cost the life of one of our regiment commanders? If you confess now, maybe I’ll consider giving you a chance to redeem yourself! But if you keep silent...’

’Sir, even if you beat me to death, I don’t know! I’m not a drug trafficker! Drug trafficking means losing your head! Look at me—I don’t have the guts for that!’

’Then why are you here?’ Qin Jian clenched his fists tightly, knuckles audibly cracking. ’One last chance!’

’I...I’ll say, alright? I have relatives on the other side of the border, so I thought I’d climb over a mountain to visit them without needing to spend any money. That’s all.’

’Alright. Take him away and hand him over to the local police,’ Qin Jian said coldly.

’What? You believe his story?’ Zhang Jianguo questioned Qin Jian.

’No, I don’t believe him. But my intuition tells me it’s not him,’ Qin Jian replied.

’Since when do you rely on intuition instead of actual analysis?’ Zhang Jianguo lowered his head, pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a drag. ’The search can’t stop today. We’ll keep going tonight.’

’Got it.’

’By the way, how’s the search going on Red Team’s side?’

’On the way back, I deliberately detoured to their command center—no results there either,’ Qin Jian said as he walked toward Zhang Jianguo. ’Sir, give me a cigarette.’
