Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1614: Chapter 1614: ’It Makes Sense for Equals to Marry

”What happened next?” Lin Qiushu asked.

”Our family was poor and couldn’t afford it. But my father loved my mother very much, and on her birthday, he sold the only two chickens we had at home and combined that with the savings from many years to buy her a bracelet,” Zhang Yun said.

”Your father really loved your mother,” Lin Qiushu sighed. ”If I had a man who loved me like that, I’d be truly content!”

”Mom, you’ve never mentioned these things before,” An Hao said, coming out of the kitchen after overhearing their conversation.

”Yes, it’s a sad story,” Zhang Yun said, recalling her parents’ love story with a sigh.

”What happened after that? What about the bracelet? If your family spent all their money on these things, how did you manage to get by afterward?” Lin Qiushu was concerned about what happened next.

”My mother passed away not long after. Her life was very short, just a few decades. At that time, I was only eight or nine years old.”

Zhang Yun always remembered her mother’s mournful face and could not understand why she looked so sad when her parents clearly loved her so much.

”That’s really a pity.”

”May I ask, did she die from an illness or something else?”

”The doctor said it was sorrow, too much overthinking,” Zhang Yun replied with a wry smile. ”It sounds strange, doesn’t it? In that era, when everyone was hustling just to not starve, my mother somehow had something to worry about.”

”Was it because she was worried about having too many children and not having enough to eat?”

Lin Qiushu asked.

”No. I was the only child. That’s why I’ve always been curious about what my mother was worrying about.”

”Maybe your father and mother didn’t have much in common to talk about?”

”Possibly!”

Zhang Yun thought for a moment and said, ”In my memory, my father was a rough man, always toiling in the fields from dawn till dusk. My mother always kept the house in perfect order; she was literate and understood things. But the two of them didn’t communicate much. It seems the old saying that ’matches are suitable’ has some truth to it.”

”Perhaps.”

The two of them were deep in conversation when there was a knock at the door.

”Have some tea; I’ll go open the door.”

Zhang Yun stood up to open the door and as soon as she did, Feng Yuzhi came in, holding some things.

Behind him were Yan Luquan and his two children.

”Ha, old Zhang, your home is really bustling today. Our whole family has come over. You and An Hao will have to go through the trouble of preparing a table full of food for us,” he said with a laugh.

Zhang Yun couldn’t help but smile back at Feng Yuzhi: ”What are you talking about? With the relationship between our two families, do we even need to say this? Come on in.”

After saying this, Zhang Yun stepped aside, letting the Yan Family members come in.

Upon entering, Yan Ye spotted Lin Qiushu sitting on the couch, drinking tea.

He was wearing a black trench coat and straight-leg jeans today, with a pair of black leather shoes on his feet.

His usually loose long hair was tied up high today, hanging in a ponytail at the back of his head.

He looked energetic and neat, yet playful, and most importantly, his youthful aura was radiating, making one feel his vigor and vitality.

As Yan Ye was sizing up Lin Qiushu, her gaze also happened to turn towards him.
