Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1522: Chapter 1522: Tender Grass or Chili Pepper

”He only gets angry when it’s really bad, and I’m afraid no ordinary person can handle him when he does.”

”Then... should we look for the commander?” They could only rely on the commander now.

”He won’t care,” Hen Zhiyuan shook his head.

He knew the commander’s personality all too well; if it involved any shady dealings, he definitely wouldn’t intervene.

Moreover, with such a big issue at hand, who would dare to intervene?

”So are we just going to passively take the beating?” Ma Mei said, frustrated.

Hen Zhiyuan painfully grabbed his hair, regretting the decision he had made in the past.

He had been too greedy, thinking he could dispatch Qin Jian and Tian Niu without a trace.

But he hadn’t expected that these two would have such large lives!

They didn’t die!

”Forget it. Don’t talk about it anymore, I’m going out for a walk,” Hen Zhiyuan pushed aside the bowl of rice in front of him and stood up.

”Where are you going?” Ma Mei asked.

”To clear my mind,” Hen Zhiyuan said, then slammed the door shut and left.

Watching the food on the table get cold, Ma Mei had completely lost her appetite.

She put away the dishes and didn’t eat.

Hen Zhiyuan walked around the family compound, occasionally running into some acquaintances.

Everyone knew about his recent award of second-class merits and his upcoming promotion to regiment leader.

People in the compound, whether they had something to talk about or not, gathered around to say a few words.

Now, with Qin Jian back, his position as regiment leader was definitely lost, and even more troublesome issues awaited him.

People’s gazes towards him had also changed.

Behind the words, there was a hint of sympathy.

Deep down, Hen Zhiyuan was a proud man and couldn’t stand such glances.

So, he quietly avoided the acquaintances and headed to the troops.

He heard that Zhao Dong and the commander of the first battalion had gone to see Qin Jian and Tian Niu today; he wanted to find out more and see if there were any new developments with Qin Jian.

He knew he might not learn anything special, but it was still better to know something.

Hen Zhiyuan headed to the troops straight to the reconnaissance company.

Company commander Zhao Dong wasn’t married, so he lived directly in the barracks. Hen Zhiyuan asked a few warriors downstairs, and they all said company commander Zhao Dong was in his dormitory.

Hen Zhiyuan headed straight for Zhao Dong’s dormitory and just as he reached the door, he heard voices coming from inside.

It turned out, Zhao Dong and the commander of the first battalion were drinking inside; their intermittent conversation mixed with laughter reached Hen Zhiyuan’s ears.

”You haven’t seen it, man, our leader’s wife is really fierce. The scene could be described as happening in broad daylight, and his wife really didn’t care, she just ran up and started kissing our leader!” Zhao Dong tutted.

”Hahaha! Are you jealous, kid!” the commander of the first battalion laughed loudly, ”You don’t know? Our leader’s wife’s nickname is ’Little Nencao’!”

”Little Nencao? I really don’t think so. I feel ’chili pepper’ fits better! That temperament and character are really something!” Zhao Dong admired her even now.

He liked women with such personalities!

”Let’s not gossip about our sister-in-law behind her back; if the leader finds out, he won’t let us off easily!” the commander of the first battalion was already scolded by the leader once for making an ill-timed joke at a big meeting.

Now, he really didn’t dare?

”Look at your courage! I really look down on you!” Zhao Dong sipped his drink and said, ”The leader’s focus isn’t on you right now; he’s all focused on Vice Commander Hen Zhiyuan.”

”What do you mean?” the commander of the first battalion asked.
