Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1506: Chapter 1506: Really Thinks of Himself as a Dish

”Why should I forget about it? I need to go too,” Ma Mei pondered and said, ”In the future, I must get along well with Commander Guan’s family. It’s good for our family.”

”Commander Guan is my superior. He has always been kind to me, and whether you go or not doesn’t make much difference,” Hen Zhiyuan tried to stop his wife.

”No, I’m determined to go,” Ma Mei was firm, feeling it was necessary to navigate among several leaders to help her husband build good relationships.

”Don’t make trouble,” Hen Zhiyuan got annoyed. ”It’s inconvenient for you when men discuss business. What if you accidentally leak any secrets...”

”Who will cook for you if I don’t go? Stop talking and let’s go together!”

Seeing he couldn’t persuade his wife, Hen Zhiyuan had no choice but to agree, ”Alright. Just this time; you’re not following me anymore.”

”Foolish!” Ma Mei tossed the word at him, changed her clothes, and went downstairs.

The couple left the building one after another, and haplessly ran into Zhang Lanxiang.

Although reluctant, Ma Mei still greeted Zhang Lanxiang.

Zhang Lanxiang didn’t even glance at her and said with disdain while walking, ”Don’t be so jumpy now, be careful you might end up being needled later.”

Ma Mei’s face stiffened, she remained silent but spat at Zhang Lanxiang’s back after walking some distance, ”She really thinks she’s special. Without Zhang Jianguo clinging to the Commander’s coattails all the time, how could he have been promoted so fast? How did she even become a division commander’s wife?”

”Just quiet down, if we offend her, we won’t have a good ending either.”

When the couple arrived at Commander Guan’s doorstep and knocked, his guard opened the door.

”Vice Commander Hen is here? The commander was just mentioning you, told me to call you over and have a couple of drinks tonight.”

”It seems I arrived at the right time,” Hen Zhiyuan smiled and pointed at the bag he was carrying. ”I brought a couple of good wines to taste with the commander.”

”Well, what are you waiting for? Come in!” Commander Guan came downstairs, cheerfully waving at him.

As the couple walked in, Commander Guan noticed Ma Mei had also come.

”Xiaoma is here too? You’re a rare guest!”

”I wasn’t planning on coming, but Zhiyuan mentioned that the commander was alone at home without anyone to cook, so I followed him,” Ma Mei said cheerfully.

”That’s great. I’ve had enough of his cooking,” Commander Guan pointed at his guard.

This guard, also a duty soldier, drove for the leadership and took care of their daily needs.

Therefore, Commander Guan, living alone, relied on this guard for everything from housekeeping to grocery shopping and cooking.

”Well then, I’ll go to the kitchen to cook for you, and you can start with some tea in the living room.”

”Great, today we’ll get a taste of Xiaoma’s cooking,” Commander Guan said with a smile.

In the living room, Commander Guan and Hen Zhiyuan discussed the recognition event earlier in the day.

”Zhiyuan, you were awarded a second-class merit this time. Qin Jian’s valiant sacrifice provided you with an opportunity. If you can move up this time, do it. If not... well, you know what follows, don’t you?”

”I understand,” Hen Zhiyuan stood up and poured a cup of tea for Commander Guan, saying, ”I hope this time you can really put in a good word for me. I’m truly risking my life here.”

”Alright. I’ll speak highly of you. But there’s one thing I need to clear up, what did Qin Jian’s wife mean by the statement she made at the meeting today?”
