Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1468: Chapter 1468: The Sky Has Fallen

Upon hearing this, Zhang Lanxiang was at a loss for words.

She simply watched An Hao with reddened eyes, allowing her tears to streak down her face.

”Sister-in-law, are you trying to worry me to death? If you have something to say, just say it!” An Hao was anxious. ”You’re making me even more worried!”

Zhang Lanxiang knew that she would have to tell An Hao sooner or later. Since it had come to this, she spoke bluntly, ”An Hao... I am going to tell you. You have to stay strong! You absolutely must not fall.”

”What? Does this have something to do with me?” An Hao was puzzled.

”Yes.” Zhang Yun nodded heavily.

”Alright. Say it. I can handle it. Sister-in-law, with the way you look, why do I feel as if the sky is about to fall?” An Hao’s heart pounded uncontrollably.

In that instant, her mind flashed through countless possibilities, but she never imagined Qin Jian’s death.

Seeing that An Hao was psychologically prepared, Zhang Lanxiang clenched her teeth, steeled her heart, and said, ”Qin Jian... has died...”

”What?” An Hao was stunned. The words came so unexpectedly that she couldn’t react at all.

”Qin Jian was honored in the disaster relief efforts; he fell into a fissure. Now, he’s ’’gone without a trace.’’ Old Zhang had people digging for five days and nights, but they never found Qin Jian’s body.” After finishing, Zhang Lanxiang sobbed uncontrollably.

The news hit An Hao like a bolt from the blue, shocking her senseless.

She stood frozen, rooted to the spot, silent for a long time.

”An Hao... An Hao... what’s wrong with you?” Zhang Lanxiang was frightened by An Hao’s reaction and shook her, calling out urgently, ”If you want to cry, cry out loud, but don’t do this!”

”I don’t believe it!” After a while, An Hao spoke, ”I don’t believe it! Qin Jian can’t be dead. You must be mistaken.”

She felt no heart-wrenching pain.

If her dearest had died, how could she not feel pain?

Moreover, in her previous life, Qin Jian had lived much longer than she did. How could he be dead?

Impossible!

She didn’t believe it.

”Sister-in-law understands how you feel. But he really is... really has died. There were many people at the scene who saw the fissure open and then close again. Qin Jian and Tian Niu... the two of them fell in,” cried Zhang Lanxiang.

”Tian Niu? And Tian Niu?” An Hao’s heart ached.

”Yes... he fell in with Qin Jian...”

”Impossible... this absolutely can’t be... I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it...” An Hao muttered, feeling utterly panicked inside. At that moment, she also became afraid, worried, and saddened...

It felt as though a hole had suddenly been dug in her heart, very empty, very empty...

The emptiness was unbearably painful.

............

An Hao walked back to the military compound in a daze, and when she reached her doorstep, she felt a coolness on her face.

Raising her hand to touch it, she realized tears had unknowingly covered her face.

From inside the house, bursts of laughter emanated.

Her mother-in-law, Zhang Yun, was still basking in joy and happiness, completely unaware that her son was now resting beneath the ground.

An Hao’s heart felt as if it were being cut by knives. She raised her hand to fiercely wipe away her tears, then gently knocked on the door: ”Mom, open the door! I’m home.”
