Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1464: Chapter 1464: How Is This Possible?

Snowflakes began to flutter down from the sky again, as if mourning the departure of heroes.

The warriors all removed their hats and sobbed audibly.

Among them, Hen Zhiyuan wept the most agonizingly.

”Commander! Commander! Batallion chief! I’m so sorry! If only I could have held on a little longer, I would have been able to... to pull you all up...”

Zhang Jianguo gazed mournfully at the tightly closed crevice, his vision blurred time after time by tears: ”Qin Jian! Qin Jian! How am I supposed to explain this to the Commander, how am I supposed to explain this to An Hao!”

.........

In just six or seven minutes, there were two aftershocks.

After the aftershocks, all medical personnel hurriedly crawled out of the collapsed tents.

Their chosen location for the medical team was an open plain; even with an earthquake, there were no buildings around, so there were absolutely no issues as long as the ground didn’t crack open.

”It’s damn dangerous,” Ji Chuan crawled out and cursed softly.

These continual aftershocks took away lives that had just been saved. Fortunately, this earthquake occurred during the day and wasn’t that severe.

”Is anyone hurt?” Yan Ye also crawled out, helping to pull people out of the collapsed tents while saying, ”I think the locals shouldn’t continue to stay here. Look at these relentless earthquakes; staying here further is extremely dangerous.”

If everything was just rebuilt and there came another earthquake, it would be deadly.

”We need to report this,” Ji Chuan said.

”Yes.” Yan Ye nodded and looked at the people aiding each other not far away, saying, ”Let’s continue working. It seems that there aren’t many victims this time.”

”This is a silver lining in our misfortune,” Ji Chuan remarked.

”Captain Yan, Captain Ji, what are all those warriors gathered there for?” a nurse who had just crawled out of the tent asked from afar, noticing the activity there.

Ji Chuan and Yan Ye, hearing her, looked in the direction she was pointing.

Indeed, all the warriors were gathered there, apparently doing something.

By now, the injured villagers had reached the medical aid station, including two little boys who were crying their eyes out.

”First, treat the children,” Yan Ye instructed.

As the nurse provided initial care to the boys, she gently comforted them: ”Don’t cry now! It’s all over. You two are the bravest darlings. Don’t be afraid, auntie will be gentle, it won’t hurt much.”

”It’s not the pain,” the two children sobbed, each detailing the reasons for their tears in turn.

”Uncle died.”

”He fell into a crevice. The crevice closed, and uncle died.”

Yan Ye, already prepared with suturing needle and thread, was shocked to hear what the children said.

The ”uncle” they mentioned must be one of the PLA warriors participating in the disaster relief.

No matter who had died, it would not sit well with them.

”Which uncle are you talking about?” Ji Chuan busied himself while asking.

”Commander! It was Commander uncle!” the child cried out.

”Commander!”

”Qin Jian!”

In an instant, both Yan Ye and Ji Chuan froze, their blood boiling furiously.

After a long while, Yan Ye murmured, ”How is this possible? It can’t be!”
