Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1409: Chapter 1409: The Courage Not to Jump

”At least over ten years.”

”Ten years? Over...?” Song Yueqin shook her head in agony, she absolutely didn’t want to spend such a long time in prison.

After spending three months in the detention center, Qin Fen came back with his body covered in scars, having lost a lot of weight, only slightly better off than a piece of jerked meat.

She had asked Qin Fen what it was like in prison.

Qin Fen told her it could drive a living person to death!

Aside from the backbreaking labor reform work every day, the most painful part was dealing with the other inmates.

The prison was full of criminals and wrongdoers.

If you were ruthless, there was always someone more ruthless than you!

Qin Fen had not been spared from beatings since entering, the torments were endlessly inventive, with scars on his chest from being burned with cigarette butts.

Being punched and kicked was a daily staple, and even that was the lightest form of punishment.

The women’s prison was even more harrowing, with all sorts of low-down tactics thoroughly researched by the female criminals.

She couldn’t handle any of it.

One day, she felt as if she would die, let alone endure ten years!

Ten years! She would go insane!

”I’m not leaving! Not even if you beat me to death!” Song Yueqin leaned back, her entire body pressed against the window.

The prisoners were under arrest, so the police could forcibly resolve the situation.

Several police officers exchanged glances, ready to apprehend Song Yueqin.

Song Yueqin happened to see the exchange of glances among them and shrank back in fright, retreating until she was stopped by the window. This made her panic.

To avoid being locked up, she was truly desperate.

Swiftly, she climbed onto the windowsill and sat perched on the ledge: ”Don’t come any closer! If you do, I’ll jump.”

”You deserve death,” An Hao said angrily, still furious.

The police, fearing that Song Yueqin would actually jump if provoked, quickly stopped An Hao and signaled for her to wait outside, ”We are on official duty! Please do not interfere!”

”I’m not interfering with your official duty! I am the mother of that poor child, who was almost stolen by her and nearly died at her hands. I won’t leave! I want to stand right here and watch! Watch you take her away! Or watch her jump and fall to her death!” An Hao said indignantly.

”You wish! Even if you die, I won’t!” Song Yueqin shouted.

”Well, let’s see who can outlast whom!” An Hao was determined, the harm to her child was unforgivable.

Her heart was not that forgiving!

She had to see her get what she deserved!

At that moment, police cars were continuously arriving downstairs.

After receiving the emergency call and hearing that a one-week-old grandson of a Military District Commander had been kidnapped, the local police immediately gave the case top priority and marshaled a massive police force for the search.

From the military base, Qin Jian hurried over after receiving the call, followed spontaneously by a battalion’s worth of warriors, all coming to help the Commander find his son.

Both forces converged at the hospital.

Song Yueqin knew she had no way out! She had backed herself into a corner!

But, to jump or to choose to serve time in prison?

She couldn’t decide!

Neither was bearable!

”Yueqin, come back! Don’t jump! Don’t jump! It’s better to be in prison than jump! Mom only has you as a daughter! If you die, Mom can’t live either!” Zhang Juyun’s legs had already turned to jelly from fear.

Song Yueqin looked down at the ground, a dark mass of people below, the wind whooshing past her feet, making her feel like she was teetering on the edge.

She was scared, swallowed hard, and didn’t have the courage to jump.
