Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1356: Chapter 1356: Past Events Rise and Fall (Part One)

When the elderly lady reached this point in her story, An Hao suddenly froze, her sharp gaze shooting toward Lin Qiushu as she said, ”Our meeting was indeed a contrived coincidence! You tracked me with premeditation, didn’t you?”

”You truly are clever as ice and snow,” Lin Qiushu couldn’t help but admire.

She held great admiration for An Hao’s wariness and analytical ability.

”Girl, you haven’t got a single thing wrong,” the old lady lifted her hand to wipe away the tears at the corner of her eyes, saying, ”But don’t blame Qiushu. We actually mean no harm to you! Knowing you must have doubts about this situation in your heart, so today, you could say that I’ve come to resolve those doubts.”

”Why do you want to tell me all this?” An Hao furrowed her brows and asked.

”Because you are a kind-hearted person. Your future husband saved my life! And you have brought this jade bracelet back into my sight after half a century,” the old woman said emotionally.

”If that’s the case, then please hurry and tell me, I can’t wait to hear,” An Hao also couldn’t wait to know the real reason she had been followed.

”There were two of these jade bracelets. My sister and I had one each. Back then, our Xiao Family was very affluent! Our mother came from a scholarly family, and our father was a merchant in Nancheng City,” the elderly woman spoke while drifting into the memories of those days.

That year, she and her sister had just turned 18.

The jade was bought by their father for a hefty price, who then had it crafted into bracelets by a famous craftsman in Nancheng as an adult gift for the two sisters.

On the inner wall of the jade bracelet, in an inconspicuous place, were engraved two special patterns so light and so fine that they would be nearly invisible unless examined closely.

The patterns were the artisan’s mark, as most masters would leave their mark, much like the signature found on a famous painting.

And the marks on these two bracelets were even more special because entwined within the patterns were the names of the two sisters.

Her sister’s name was Xiao Baozhu, and her name was Xiao Zhenzhu.

These were the names given by their father, symbolizing that the sisters were the pearls in his palm.

The family lived happily, but they never expected that a single kind act by their father would shatter their family.

Not long after their 18th birthday, a man close to starvation collapsed at their doorstep.

Out of kindness, their father took him in, treated his illness, provided food and drink, and looked after him for over two months.

But unexpectedly, the man turned out to be a despicable and shameless scoundrel.

On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, he sneaked into her room and swept away all the valuables, including her jade bracelet.

What was even more detestable was that before he left, while the family was enjoying the moon, he took the baby who was sound asleep in his mother’s room.

The Xiao Family was thrown into chaos.

The father reported the case to the police station and nearly depleted the family wealth in hiring people to search for the child.

After searching for more than half a year, they still hadn’t found any trace of the man.

The family suffered such a great tragedy that the father couldn’t withstand the blow and fell ill.

Within a month, he passed away from a sudden illness.

At his funeral procession, Xiao Baozhu caught a glimpse of that man’s shadow.

She then told her that she would catch the man and find their little brother.

With her departure, she vanished without a trace.

She and her mother searched for her sister for over two months, but there was no news.

Their mother said she had to find her sister but was worried about who would take care of her after she left.

The mother hastily arranged a marriage for her and married her off.
