Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1215: Chapter 1215: None of the Family are Good Birds

”Then, besides you, did anyone else see the doctor remove the syringe?” Yan Ye asked.

”I’m not sure about that. It seemed like everyone was busy with their own tasks. Whether someone else saw it or not, I really can’t be certain.”

”No one saw it,” Ji Chuan told her with certainty, ”Nobody saw Ma Mei pull out the syringe, but all the people present saw you move towards the syringe.”

Upon hearing this, An Hao fully understood why Yan Ye and Ji Chuan had come today.

”So the patient has been asleep and unresponsive because the wrong syringe was pulled out, right? Is it that the syringe containing the anesthetic was mistaken for the antibiotic syringe and removed?”

Ji Chuan nodded gravely, ”You’re right, the patient is now in a vegetative state.”

”So I’ve become the first suspect, have I?” An Hao felt a suffocating sensation in her chest and calmed her emotions before looking at Yan Ye and stating clearly, ”Teacher Yan, please believe me, everything I said is true. I wasn’t the one who removed the syringe. I just saw that the tape on the syringe was peeling off and I helped reattach it.”

”I believe you.”

”I believe you.”

Yan Ye and Ji Chuan said in unison.

But it was useless for just the two of them to believe; they needed everyone to believe her.

That was where the trouble lay.

Now, it was clear that everyone had only seen An Hao move towards the syringe; they hadn’t seen Ma Mei.

Just An Hao’s word alone couldn’t persuade everyone.

Qin Jian’s eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and he listened to their conversation with an angry expression, ”So you’re saying my wife, despite the risk of miscarriage, stood for fourteen hours on the operating table, and now she’s being falsely accused of making a mistake that caused a patient to lapse into a coma and become vegetative, is that right?”

”Doctors, you must find evidence. It’s absolutely impossible that An Hao is lying; it must have been that Ma Mei,” Zhang Lanxiang asserted, almost one hundred percent certain.

That entire Hen Zhiyuan family is no good.

The saying goes, ’Those who are alike tend to flock together,’ and this is what it means.

If her niece is not up to any good, how can the rest of them be any better?

Wasn’t it her who taught her niece after all?

”Qin Jian, sister-in-law, don’t worry just yet. I didn’t do this, and I’m not taking the fall for it,” Ma Mei insisted. The hospital must give her a result of the investigation; otherwise, not only would the patient’s family be up in arms, but she wouldn’t stand for it either.

”This matter is indeed challenging,” Yan Ye too was deeply troubled and pained, ”Right now, all the opinions are against you, and Ma Mei is completely out of the picture.”

”She acts like nothing happened now. She never mentions anything about that night’s surgery again,” Ji Chuan now recalled that that morning on the roof, Ma Mei’s expression was actually one of nervousness.

It seemed she had known in her heart that she had pulled the wrong syringe all along.

But after Doctor Zhou had named An Hao, her expression had become calm instead.

”I’ll go find her,” Zhang Lanxiang rose to her feet, ready to leave, ”I want to see if she feels guilty at all, if she can still face everyone with a clear conscience.”

”Sister-in-law, don’t go,” An Hao quickly stopped her, ”If she was willing to admit it, she would have done so long ago, why wait until now? You have to understand, the responsibility for this medical accident is too great, and she’s also afraid she won’t be able to bear it and that it could ruin her career. That’s why she continues to deceive and doesn’t tell the truth.”
