Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1097: Chapter 1097: Return to the Detention Center for Two Days

”Why don’t you say anything?” Qin Jian glanced at An Ping, ”You’ve really got some nerve now! Running off to the city to watch that kind of film? Right when there’s a strict crackdown throughout the city, and you just had to head straight into danger!”

”I didn’t know, okay?” If he had known, he wouldn’t have watched it no matter what.

Qin Jian stopped in his tracks and glared at him: ”Whether you knew about the crackdown or not, you shouldn’t have gone to see that kind of film.”

”I... I’m almost at the marrying age right? Just trying to learn a bit in advance,” An Ping was still smooth-talking.

Qin Jian stopped again and turned around to walk back.

”Hey, brother-in-law, where are you going?” An Ping hurriedly asked.

”I regret this now! I’m going to have you guys stay in the detention center for a couple of days.” Qin Jian said.

”No, no, no! Brother-in-law, isn’t it enough that I admit I was wrong?” An Ping finally softened his tone.

Only then did Qin Jian lead the three of them back to the military compound. On the way, he listened as An Ping explained the ins and outs of the situation, and he realized that these fellows had come to see An Hao and had taken the opportunity to scout the city as well.

..............................

After waking up, An Hao went downstairs to eat and noticed several young boys had joined their dining table.

Everyone was sitting neatly, all waiting for their meal.

”An Ping, why are you here?” An Hao was overjoyed to see her brother at home.

”Dad heard you’re pregnant so he sent me to check on you and simultaneously scout out the city market’s situation!” An Ping said honestly; having caused trouble earlier, he dared not be slick anymore.

”Oh. Why did you come so late? It’s already dark; it’s difficult to arrange accommodations.” An Hao said offhandedly, as the guest room at home was too small and had only a single bed.

”That’s no problem. If necessary, we can stay at the military’s guesthouse for a few days.” Ning Yibin said.

”Alright. We’ll do everything as Uncle Ning arranges!” An Ping was now being obedient.

The table was set, and An Hao sat next to Qin Jian. She served herself a bowl of rice and ate slowly, asking An Ping and the others, ”How many days are you planning to scout the city?”

”One... one week maybe.”

”Why so long?”

”What? Sis, don’t you want us to stay a bit longer?”

”No, it’s not that. If you’re scouting the market, one person can stay behind to do it; having so many people here, Dad alone is too tired handling everything at home.” That was An Hao’s real concern.

”Scouting alone won’t be comprehensive enough; we need three people.” Liu Xiaolian quickly said.

”Right, right, right!” Wang Erzhu also chimed in agreement.

”Alright then. Since it’s like that, you all can stay. But still, try to finish the scouting as soon as possible. The sooner you can go back, the better! Dad alone can’t manage the vegetable garden effectively.”

”Okay.” The three of them answered in unison.

Having eaten dinner cautiously and seeing that An Hao hadn’t noticed anything unusual, An Ping and the others finally breathed a sigh of relief.

After dinner, Ning Yibin felt a bit unwell and went to sleep early.

An Ping and the others didn’t want to bother him any longer; after a long day, they were tired too, so Qin Jian decided to send them off first.

”I’ll go with you.” Having slept the entire day at home and feeling a bit stiff, she also wanted to go out for a walk.

”It’s too cold outside. I’ll go alone.” Qin Jian didn’t want An Hao to be out in the cold, plus it was a long walk to the military guesthouse.
