Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 887: Chapter 888 The lingering scent in the air

”Then you have even less to worry about,” Gu Shuangshuang comforted An Hao, ”The Chief of Staff comes from a reconnaissance background, how strong his vigilance is. How could he be easily taken down by just any woman? Besides, if she dares to make a move on Qin Jian, then she would be sabotaging a military marriage.”

”Yeah.” An Hao felt that Gu Shuangshuang made some sense, but as long as Cheng Yu didn’t leave, she wouldn’t feel at ease for a single day.

Cheng Yu was like the Sword of Damocles hanging over her head!

An Hao and Gu Shuangshuang finished their lunch, and the two came out of the small diner.

They chatted as they walked.

It had been a long time since the two friends had seen each other, and it was rare to have such leisure time to talk.

Neither of them noticed the man in the corner of the small diner who also followed them out, trailing at a safe distance for a while.

Then he disappeared without a trace.

............

After dinner, Cheng Yu knocked on Yan Ye’s door.

Yan Ye had just finished taking a bath, wiping his wet hair with a towel.

Seeing Cheng Yu standing outside, he smiled slightly and stepped aside from the door, ”Come in and sit!”

Cheng Yu shook her head, ”No need, I have a few words to say to Mr. Yan. After that, I’ll be on my way!”

”Alright. What brings Teacher Cheng to my door?” asked Yan Ye.

”In a couple of days, I’ll be returning. Due to personal health reasons, I’m afraid I won’t be able to stay with everyone until the end,” Cheng Yu said slowly.

”I’ve heard the others talking. If Teacher Cheng really feels unwell, then you should leave first. After all, health is the most important thing,” Yan Ye consoled her, ”You don’t have to worry about things here. This time, we have all learned a lot.”

”I truly admire Mr. Yan’s dedication,” she said. She had seen his seriousness at work these past days.

No wonder Cheng Yue always told her how wonderful Yan Ye was.

She hadn’t thought much of it before, but once she had truly interacted with him, she found this man of few words with a seemingly cold demeanor to be a really decent person.

Beneath his icy exterior lay a soft heart and a firm conviction.

His professional skills were extremely high, and his family background just as dazzling.

As Cheng Yue would say, the two of them were indeed well-matched in terms of social status. From a conditions standpoint, they seemed quite compatible.

But his heart was so small, already occupied by another man, leaving no room for anyone else.

Such an excellent man should be left for others. In this life, Cheng Yu had no fate with him.

”Teacher Cheng is only unwell. I believe if you had a healthy physique, you would be just as enthusiastic about medical practice as I am,” Yan Ye said with a smile.

”Thank you,” Cheng Yu smiled.

”When you leave in a couple of days, I may not be able to see you off. Teacher Cheng, please be careful on your own journey.”

”Thanks for your concern, Mr. Yan. If there’s nothing else...” Cheng Yu hadn’t finished speaking when suddenly a clang echoed from inside the room.

Yan Ye turned his head to see that the glass of the window had shattered.

”Must have been some mischievous kid,” he said with a laugh, not taking it seriously.

Cheng Yu said farewell to him once more and went upstairs alone.

She opened the door to her room.

Nothing inside had been moved, yet there was a faint trace of tobacco odor lingering in the air.

She had smelled this tobacco scent once before.

It was the same scent that had remained on the corners of her lips that morning.
