Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 880: Chapter 880 Preparations for Departure

Li Zhi finished speaking and stood up, heading alone towards the small warehouse.

After breakfast, Tian Niu sent someone to take Li Zhi and Jia Shuangshuang to the town health center.

Seeing the banners in the courtyard, the two of them walked that way.

They eventually arrived at the free clinic room.

Yan Ye had the day off and took the opportunity to go to the county town alone to buy medicine.

Cheng Yu, with several interns, was seeing patients.

As soon as Li Zhi and Gu Shuangshuang entered, they saw Cheng Yu, who was listening to a patient’s heartbeat. Li Zhi called out excitedly, ”Sister Cheng Yu!”

Cheng Yu looked up, saw it was Li Zhi, and smiled, nodding at him to take a seat first.

”You have some irregular heartbeat, the situation isn’t very serious, but you need to pay more attention! Keep some heart-saving pills and thrombolytic drugs at home. They can save your life in critical moments,” Cheng Yu briefly advised the patient, then put down her stethoscope and came over.

”What brings you here?” Cheng Yu looked somewhat surprised to see Li Zhi.

”Shuangshuang and I came out for a trip and just happened to pass by, so we came to see you. How are you doing here, Sister Cheng Yu? My aunt always mentions you at home. You’ve been out for a while now, don’t you plan to go back for a visit?” Li Zhi said.

”I’ll go back,” Cheng Yu said with a faint smile. ”I’ll return after a short while, it should be very soon...”

An intern who had just finished diagnosing a patient said, ”Teacher Cheng, you’re leaving? How come you’ve never mentioned this before?”

”I haven’t been feeling well these days! There haven’t been many patients recently either, staying here would only be a burden on everyone, so I might as well go back first,” Cheng Yu said.

”That’s fine. When are you leaving? If you leave early, I’ll stay here a few more days to accompany you. If you’re leaving late, then I’ll go ahead.”

”You go first, I still have something to do here.” Finally, she looked out the window, and it should be soon; she wouldn’t need a week before she’d have to leave as well.

”Sister Cheng Yu, what is it you have to do? Tell me, and I’ll help you with it!” Li Zhi offered eagerly.

”No need. You wouldn’t be able to handle it!” Cheng Yu said with a laugh, ”I appreciate your kindness! If there’s nothing else, you should head back soon. Please tell Yuyu and my mother for me that I’ll be able to return soon and not to worry,”

”Alright, since that’s the case, I’ll leave first. Take care of yourself, Sister Cheng Yu!” Li Zhi bid farewell before taking Gu Shuangshuang to a restaurant in the town for a meal, and then they went back.

After finishing a day’s work, Cheng Yu, tired, returned to the simple accommodations of the guesthouse.

She habitually made some coffee, opened the window, and let in the cool evening breeze.

The streets were silent, with only the occasional bark of a dog.

She looked through the window towards the Northwest direction, where a corps was stationed, and the man she constantly thought about was based there.

Although they were in the same area and not very far apart, she always felt as if a world separated them.

She couldn’t get close to that place, nor could she get close to him.

This wasn’t the purpose of her trip!

The Xin Ni who had made a deal with her before had also disappeared, probably taken care of by An Hao.

She was too shallow, not knowing how to conceal her edge; failure was a foregone conclusion.

After finishing her coffee, Cheng Yu leaned back on the bed and opened ”Jane Eyre” once again.

She read line by line, as if affirming the belief that had always guided her.

After a long time, she fell into a deep sleep.
