Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 871: Chapter 871: Love Cannot Be Forced

”I have nothing to talk to you about.” Gu Shuangshuang gave him that one line and went upstairs without looking back.

Before Gu Shuangshuang could close the door, Li Zhi successfully squeezed into the room.

”Shuangshuang, can’t you just stop arguing with your mom?”

”Does this have anything to do with you?” Gu Shuangshuang crossed her arms over her chest and raised an eyebrow at Li Zhi. ”The conflict between her and me is irreconcilable, you talking more is pointless!”

”Auntie has it tough too, and as her children, shouldn’t we be more understanding of her?” Li Zhi dropped his usual joking demeanor and spoke to Gu Shuangshuang earnestly.

”Me, understanding her? Haven’t you seen how unreasonable her demands can be? Li Zhi, I can give in to her on everything else, but not when it comes to love and marriage!” She didn’t want to marry someone she didn’t love and live a life of just getting by.

What she longed for was a life like Qin Jian and An Hao’s, full of mutual love, understanding, and trust.

Hearing her say this, Li Zhi felt a deep pain. ”Shuangshuang, am I really that bad? Not good enough for you?”

This holiday, he had been sincerely kind to Gu Shuangshuang.

He would buy breakfast for her in the morning, secretly send letters for her, and whenever she fought with her mother, he always stood by Gu Shuangshuang’s side.

He hoped that his actions would touch Gu Shuangshuang’s heart.

But in the end, she didn’t even glance at him, her heart was filled only with Tian Niu.

Gu Shuangshuang was aware of Li Zhi’s kindness towards her.

She wasn’t blind or deaf and knew very well why Li Zhi acted this way.

”Li Zhi,” Gu Shuangshuang invited Li Zhi to sit down. They faced each other, and she spoke calmly, ”I know you’re good to me, but you can’t force love! You are excellent, but not the right fit for me. My heart belongs to someone else and I’ve decided long ago that in this life, if it’s not him, I won’t marry.”

Upon hearing this, Li Zhi grabbed his hair with his hand and said angrily, ”What is it that you see in that guy?”

”What is it about me that you like?” Gu Shuangshuang countered.

”I don’t know, I just fell in love with you the moment I saw you! No reason at all!”

”Same here!” Gu Shuangshuang said softly, ”I’m sorry, Li Zhi! I just want to have a marriage that I like.”

Li Zhi nodded, ”I understand.”

”So, are you planning to give up?” Gu Shuangshuang asked.

”If I don’t give up, will you spare me a second glance?”

Gu Shuangshuang shook her head, ”No.”

”Then, I give up.” After saying that, Li Zhi got up and walked downstairs without looking back.

Around three in the morning, Gu Shuangshuang got out of bed, hoping to sneak away under the cover of darkness.

She couldn’t bother packing much, just hastily stuffed a few essential clothes into a bag and was ready to leave.

She turned the doorknob quietly, but it didn’t budge.

Then she tried again and realized that the door had been locked from outside.

Gu Shuangshuang had been full of hope that she could escape under the night sky, but suddenly found herself locked in; her mood plummeted from the peak to the valley in an instant.

Duan Aihua was so cautious with her, ready to use any method just to prevent her from leaving.

But Gu Shuangshuang was indeed Duan Aihua’s daughter; if her mother could lock her up, she could find a way to escape.
