Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 721: Chapter 721: Bringing Back Some Tender Grass to Eat

”There are two people I really don’t want to see!” Yan Huan said angrily.

”Qin Jian and An Hao?”

”Yes! I hate seeing them being all lovey-dovey!” Yan Huan grumbled as she plopped down on the sofa, refusing to get up again.

”You have psychological issues,” Yan Ye descended from upstairs and sat beside Yan Huan. ”Actually, you don’t love Qin Jian as much as you think. You just can’t stand the thought of him being taken by someone else! Deep down, you think An Hao is inferior to you! That’s why you get angry when you see them together.”

”And what about you? Do you get angry when you see them being intimate?” Yan Huan retorted.

”Of course.” But inside, it was just a faint sense of loss, mainly he felt happy for them.

”Psh! I don’t believe it.”

”Believe it or not,” Feng Yuzhi came out of the kitchen, brandishing a large spatula. ”I’m telling you, this year, one of you two has to break free from being single! Otherwise, I’ll never let it go.”

”Look at you, acting all tough,” Yan Huan glanced at Feng Yuzhi. ”I’m not settling for just anyone to get married to!”

”Then what do you want? If you don’t marry soon, you’ll really become an old maid! What young man would dare to take you?”

Yan Huan slammed the table: ”Because of what you just said! I will indeed find myself a Little Nencao to make a point!”

”Fine! If you bring a Little Nencao home this year! I’ll give you the jade bracelet that your grandmother left me!”

”What do I, a soldier, want with that thing? I want you to never nag me again! Not one word!”

”Deal! It’s settled!”

Feng Yuzhi, overjoyed by her daughter’s reply, beamed with happiness: ”Since you’ve decided to find yourself a Little Nencao, don’t hold any grudges against the young couple next door. Go over again and get a set of couplets from your Uncle Ning! And tell them, we’re sticking to the old ways this year! Invite them over! Let’s have a great time!”

In the past years, it had been customary for the couples of Ning Yibin and Yan Luquan to spend the New Year together.

During those years, Ning Bo had died.

New Year’s was a time for family reunions and joy, but it became a painful day for Ning Yibin and his wife.

Fortuitously, those two years, Yan Huan had been celebrating New Year in the army, and Yan Ye didn’t return from abroad.

The four of them would gather around a table, whip up a few dishes, drink heartily, and then call it a night when drunk.

They had spent several years this way.

Last year, since Qin Jian got married, they hadn’t gathered, but this year, after bumping into Zhang Yun a few times, they had some idle chit-chat, and it just so happened that they brought up this matter, making plans to spend the New Year together if there weren’t any major issues.

So, on New Year’s Eve, the Ning family came over.

They had been comrades-in-arms, so their relationship was very close.

When Ning Bo was alive, he had also been close to Yan Ye and Yan Huan, but now with Ning Bo gone and Qin Jian in the picture, Ning Yibin hoped they could all integrate with the kids from the military compound.

After all, they were getting older.

As the new generation, they hoped their children would continue their friendship.

In the kitchen, Feng Yuzhi and Zhang Yun were busy with no end in sight, chopping meat for dumpling filling and kneading dough.

In the living room, the two old men seized the moment to play a couple of rounds of a game.

Yan Huan initially sat on the sofa planning to watch the New Year’s Gala on TV but ended up seeing Yan Ye and Qin Jian whispering to each other, with their conversation revolving endlessly around An Hao’s academia, and she suddenly felt so irritated that she went upstairs.

Yan Huan went to her father’s study.
