Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 667: Chapter 667 The Young Calf Is Not Afraid of the Tiger

Qin Jian wrote a return letter to Cheng Yue overnight, indicating that he would accept his challenge.

Early the next morning, An Hao brought the reply to the school. She didn’t see Cheng Yue but met Li Zhi and entrusted him to pass the letter to Cheng Yue.

Cheng Yue couldn’t wait to open the envelope after receiving the reply.

There was only a simple and concise reply on the letter paper, stating that he would accept the fight, with Cheng Yue deciding the time and place.

Li Zhi and Zhang Chaoqian had also gathered around, and after seeing the handwriting, both of them mentally lit a candle for Cheng Yue.

Zhang Chaoqian had been practicing calligraphy with his father since childhood and it was said that the style of one’s writing reflects their character. Could one discern a person’s character from their handwriting?

Qin Jian’s writing was firm and contained an internal sharpness, revealing a degree of steadfastness.

Anyone who could produce such handwriting was definitely not simple.

Cheng Yue felt otherwise, convinced that his numerous martial contests with the actual PLA warriors in the military camp, and his frequent victories, were enough.

He had also inquired about Qin Jian, who was a chief of staff. A chief of staff, the head of the military command department, assisted the military leader of the unit in command.

In his impression, if a chief of staff were to compete in a duel, the outcome would be snicker-worthy.

What he didn’t know was that Qin Jian had previously come from a field army reconnaissance company, which was the sharp edge and former embodiment of the special forces within the PLA troops.

Thus, without knowing the sky from the earth, he issued a challenge and was self-assured, firmly believing that he could also defeat Qin Jian in this contest!

..................

A week of exams came to an end, and it was officially vacation time.

On the first day of the holiday, Cheng Yue arranged to meet Qin Jian in the park at the heart of the city for the contest.

Qin Jian accepted the proposed time but rejected the suggested location; instead, he decided that the duel would take place at the Military Medical University’s sports field.

The intention was clear: to announce to the whole school that he was An Hao’s husband!

Thus completely cutting off any unseemly hopes those harboring ill intentions towards An Hao might have had.

At ten in the morning, Qin Jian arrived on time, having removed his military uniform and changed into casual wear.

Cheng Yue was also ready, warming up on the sports field with kicks and punches, prepared to teach Qin Jian a lesson.

Li Zhi and Zhang Chaoqian acted as cheerleaders on the side: ”Cheng Yue will win! Cheng Yue will win!”

This scene quickly attracted countless onlookers, and in no time, the sports field was surrounded by three layers of people inside and three layers outside.

Yan Ye had also heard the news and now stood among the crowd, shaking his head with a smile at Cheng Yue’s challenge to Qin Jian, suspecting that someone was going to have a tough time today.

”Qin Jian, since you’re here, let’s compete! The conditions here are lacking; we can’t compete in shooting or obstacle racing! Why don’t you compete with me in the simplest events? Push-ups, ab-rolling on the bar, and lastly, a bout of sparring! Best two out of three rounds will do!” There was only so much they could do with the limited equipment on the sports field.

”No! I want to win in three out of three rounds,” Qin Jian confidently declared.

”Fine! I’ll make sure you’re thoroughly convinced of your defeat,” Cheng Yue boasted.

In the crowd, Gu Shuangshuang heard Cheng Yue’s words and nearly burst out laughing: ”Where does Cheng Yue get his confidence? Competing in these childish games with a chief of staff! The chief of staff has seen battle, has killed enemies! He has commanded in combat! This is truly a case of a calf not fearing the tiger!”
