Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 481: Chapter 481: Impossible to Get Pregnant

”When I married your dad, I got pregnant with Qin Jian within a month, even started having morning sickness,” Zhang Yun tasted the chicken soup and added half a spoon of salt.

”Can people really be the same?” Ning Yibin watched Zhang Yun with amusement, ”And to think you’re a woman, asking me such a question?”

”Isn’t it because I’m anxious for a grandson? Just look at those two chubby grandsons of the Liu family, so delightful to see. Qin Jian is not young anymore, it’s time he became a dad,” Zhang Yun said.

”An Hao is still young, isn’t she? She just started college, and if she gets pregnant within two days after marriage, wouldn’t she have to drop out for a year or two? I think the kid is quite ambitious, she definitely wouldn’t want a child so early. So, you can stop worrying for no reason,” Ning Yibin said as he cut the vegetables and handed them to Zhang Yun.

”Ah, I’m worrying like it’s the end of the world, but none of you seem hurried at all,” Zhang Yun sighed as she spoke.

”What’s the use of us worrying? It all depends on the children. Just worry less. The kids are no fools, they have their plans. And you’re still faring pretty well, our in-laws even changed An Hao’s household registration, at least your son has brought his wife home. Look at the neighbors, Mr. Yan and Mr. Feng, one with a son, one with a daughter, and neither of them eager to get married! It’s driving both Mr. Yan and Mr. Feng mad, they’re practically ready to get married on behalf of their children!” Ning Yibin couldn’t help but laugh when he thought of this.

”That’s true,” Zhang Yun said, but deep down, she was still very anxious.

No one in the family understood how she felt.

Why was she so eager to push Qin Jian to have children? When she had him, she nearly lost her life from heavy bleeding and couldn’t have more children after that.

Back then, every household had three or four children, some even had seven or eight.

Only she had just this one child.

A single child was especially precious, and she feared some mishap might befall him.

Living in constant fear, the child’s solitary childhood, coupled with his frail health, left Zhang Yun unable to eat or sleep, fearing the day her child would leave her.

Later, Ning Bo still left, and she spent five years in hell.

Now she had found Qin Jian, and he wasn’t young anymore.

She heard from doctors that the best age for a man to have children was in his twenties or thirties; any older and the children might have poor health.

So, this was why she was in such a rush for them to have children early.

But what was the use of just her worrying alone?

These past few nights, she hadn’t been able to sleep, nor had she heard any creaking noises from the bed upstairs. It had been a good seven or eight days without a sound.

Even as a newly married couple, it should be like when she and old Ning got married—old Ning was like a wolf, never satisfied at night.

Why was her son so indifferent, even in that respect?

Zhang Yun didn’t tell her husband Ning Yibin because she was afraid he’d laugh at her, to say her insomnia was purely overthinking.

After dinner, Qin Jian and Ning Yibin went to play chess.

An Hao helped her mother-in-law Zhang Yun clean the pots and pans, which Zhang Yun usually never allowed, but today she had something to say, so she let An Hao join her in the kitchen.

As she washed the dishes, she said, ”An Hao, have you noticed any changes in your taste lately? Like a particular craving for sour or spicy food?”

Upon hearing this, An Hao knew what her mother-in-law was getting at and, trying to hold back a smile, lowered her head and wiped the dishes, ”Mom, my period just came last month! There’s no way I could be pregnant.”

”When exactly did it start?” asked Zhang Yun.

”Around the 7th or 8th, I guess.”

Zhang Yun did some quick mental calculations and finally understood why—the bed wasn’t creaking because these past few days were her daughter-in-law’s time of the month. If they had sex during these days, she would definitely get pregnant!
