Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 429: Chapter 429: Going to Get the Marriage Certificate

An Hao, seeing no way out, reluctantly accepted the money.

”In a couple of days, I’ll have someone deliver the wedding betrothal gifts. Dear in-law, according to custom, how much should be appropriate for the betrothal gift?”

Before An Shuchao could speak, An Hao had already weighed in, ”Dad, Qin Jian already gave us money when we got engaged. We simply cannot accept the betrothal gift money now. Our family’s situation is different from before; we aren’t as poor as we used to be. Let Qin Jian’s parents keep the money for their retirement.”

”Don’t worry my daughter! Your dad still has some awareness. What we value is the goodness of Qin Jian himself, we do not covet anything else,” An Shuchao said in a lowered voice.

Despite their efforts to keep their voices down, Ning Yibin and his wife still heard them.

They were moved by their future daughter-in-law’s lack of greed and sincere attitude towards love, ”An Hao, you don’t have to consider so much for us. We should follow the customs! If we’re going to have a wedding, let’s make it a lively one so you two can be happy. In the future, let’s live harmoniously together.”

”Uncle and Auntie, you don’t have to provide the betrothal gifts, let Qin Jian give them to me in the future!” An Hao said with a smile, ”Let’s not get entangled over this. I appreciate your kindness!”

”Alright.” Qin Jian nodded without hesitation, ”I’ll be the one to give it.”

Ning Yibin understood what An Hao meant, and since both his son and future daughter-in-law had decided, he and Zhang Yun no longer insisted, ”Fine. Then, we’ll save it for you!”

”And we’ll keep it for our future grandson,” Zhang Yun said, her brows lifted with joy.

.....................

After the wedding date was set, the first thing Qin Jian did upon returning to the city was to submit a report for approval to his organization, which went very smoothly.

After the report was submitted, it was quickly approved at every level, and documentation was issued by the organization. Then, all that was left was for Qin Jian and An Hao to take the proof and their household registration books to the Civil Affairs Bureau to register their marriage.

Urged by Zhang Yun, Qin Jian took a day off especially to go to the village to pick up An Hao.

As photos were needed for the marriage certificate, An Hao took great care to dress up so she could present her best self on it.

She tied her hair into a ponytail, wore a newly bought woolen coat, pulled on straight-leg trousers, and stepped into a pair of brand-new leather shoes.

She had made a special trip to the city’s clothing stores recently; as it was winter, the denim business had gradually slowed down. With denim jackets being all the rage over the past half-year, many store owners, in pursuit of maximum profits, had gone out of their way to source fabric and find factories to produce their own.

Once state-owned clothing factories realized this fashion trend was heating up, they began to import large quantities of fabric and then produce denim pants, so their businesses also suffered a significant impact.

The monopoly of a single clothing store owner was no more, and seeing the income dwindle day by day, they were very anxious.

An Hao, because of her upcoming college education, might not have much time to deal with this matter in the future.

She voluntarily proposed to terminate the contract with the store owner, and from then on, she would no longer partake in the profits; all of it would solely belong to the store owner.

An Hao felt that the store owner had always been a good person, and having received money for such a long time, she felt it was enough.
