Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 174: Chapter 173: Picking Her Up for School

”She was of course happy,” Song Yueqin’s eyes danced as she spoke, ”I told her the gift was from me.”

”What?” Song Fei became anxious when he heard this, ”That present was clearly from me, how did it become yours? I asked you to speak well of me in front of Qin Feng, but you haven’t done anything?”

”Don’t be impatient. Qin Feng originally didn’t like you, so of course she refused to accept anything from you,” Song Yueqin explained to him, ”If she’s in a good mood one day, I’ll take the opportunity to tell her everything. Then the effect will be much better, understand?”

Song Fei thought there was some sense to that and nodded continuously, ”Okay, then I’ll trouble you with this, little sister, please take more care for your brother.”

Song Yueqin laughed, ”Taking care is fine, but what’s in it for me after worrying on your behalf for so long!”

”You name it!”

”Give me another tube of that lipstick,” Song Yueqin seized the moment to extort.

Song Fei thought about the future troubles and would need her, so he gritted his teeth and agreed, ”Alright then!”

”Thanks, brother,” Song Yueqin smiled triumphantly.

................

The next day, An Hao woke up early in the morning, and as soon as she stepped down, pain shot through her foot.

Yesterday, it felt much better, but it hadn’t completely healed.

Under those circumstances, it was already very lucky that her ankle wasn’t fractured.

What made her more depressed was the thought of walking to the town’s school with her foot in this condition!

Just as An Hao was worrying, the teachers were leading the students in systematic review sessions. If she missed these days, how much extra time would she have to spend catching up on her own?

She was already running short on time.

As An Hao fretted, she heard a few peals of spring thunder outside, followed abruptly by the soft patter of rain...

Terrible timing!

An Hao stood at the door, staring blankly at the spring rain when she suddenly heard knocking from outside the gate.

Who could it be so early?

She carefully took an umbrella from the room and, with one hand against the wall, edged her way outside.

As she opened the gate, she saw Shen Zhihua standing in the rain wearing a black raincoat, pushing a shiny new 28-inch bicycle.

”Class monitor?” An Hao was surprised, ”So early... What brings you here?”

”I’ve come to take you to school!” Shen Zhihua stood in the storm, quietly looking at her as he spoke.

”Take me?”

Shen Zhihua nodded and pointed gently to the foot she was barely resting on the ground, ”Isn’t your foot injured?”

Yesterday, he had learned all about An Hao’s family situation.

”Yeah. That’s right,” An Hao smiled, ”Thank you, class monitor; you’re very thoughtful. But, did you borrow this bicycle just for this?”

An Hao knew Shen Zhihua liked her, so the moment she saw the bicycle, she worried that he might have gone out overnight to borrow it.

”No. My dad bought it for me to ride to school,” he said.

A few days ago, his uncle had repaid all the borrowed money, plus some extra interest.

Seeing him travel so far to school every day, enduring the wind and rain, sleeping late and getting up early, his father found it too hard on him and used the money to buy a bicycle.

If his son could get into a university, the money spent would be worth it.

”Oh,” An Hao nodded softly. Shen Zhihua’s appearance was truly a blessing in disguise at that moment.

However, she also had some small concerns; she was afraid that accepting this help might cause trouble for Shen Zhihua.

She was also fearful, worried about what Qin Jian might think if he misunderstood.

While An Hao was hesitating, she heard Shen Zhihua’s voice, ”An Hao, what are you worried about? I’m helping you purely out of concern as a friend. I ask you, with the college entrance exams looming, do you want to miss several days of classes because of your foot injury?”
